Over 100-thousand homeowners who are covered by the state’s insurer of last resort, Citizen Property Insurance, will see their rates rise by an average of 63-percent next year when they renew their policy after January first. Insurance Commissoner Jim Donelon says the rising cost of reinsurance is behind the huge rate increase.
