LSU sets a new record in academic quality for its most accomplished freshman class in the university’s history. Assistant Vice President and Director of Admissions Daniel Barrow says the class has an all-time high median GPA of 3.78 and an ACT composite of 25.5.

The freshman class is made up of 68 percent Louisiana residents.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is asking deer hunters in Franklin, Madison and Tensas parishes to submit samples to test for Chronic Wasting Disease or CWD. LDWF Deer Program Manager Jonathan Bordelon says there are a list of locations on their website and at each location signage and instructions on how to submit a sample.

CWD is fatal to deer and the department is hoping to track the disease by having hunters submit samples.

A shelter task force from the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services and an all-hazard incident management team from the State Fire Marshal’s Office are in Florida. State Fire Marshal Dan Wallis says their team can assist in a variety of recovery efforts.

Emergency Preparedness Director with DCFS Ricky Montet (Mon-tay) says three staff members are in Tallahassee and from there they will be deployed to assist with shelters in Florida.

Montet says it’s not the first time a shelter task force has aided in Florida, they were in Florida in 2018 for Hurricane Michael.
