State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley is proposing 30 hours of summer school for k-4th graders who are not reading at grade level. Brumley says many students lost valuable in-classroom instruction during the pandemic and may need to catch up.

Funeral services are today in New Iberia for Lucille Fremin Babineaux, the mother of late Governor—and Lt. Governor–Kathleen Blanco. Babineaux died last week at the age of 102. Monique Boulet is Blanco’s daughter and Babineaux’s granddaughter.

The House Ways and Means Committee plans to meet every couple of weeks to discuss eliminating the state’s income tax. Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell says he can get behind that plan and proposes a tax on foreign oil processed in Louisiana to make-up for the four-billion dollars in revenue lost. But Campbell is skeptical state leaders will have the courage to make such a bold move…
