The statistical peak of the hurricane season is Saturday. Surprisingly, this is one of the calmest hurricane seasons in a while. Louisiana’s whooping crane population has grown by eight this year to 76 as eight wild hatched chicks have fledged, which is the most in a single breeding season since whooping cranes were added back into the wildlife in 2011.
