8th-ranked LSU defeated number 16 Tennessee 57-54 on Sunday to close out Kim Mulkey’s spectacularly successful first regular season as coach of the Tigers. Both Jailin Cherry and Khayla Pointer posted double-doubles as LSU won its eighth game in a row and 25th of the season. The Tigers will hold the second seed in the SEC women’s basketball tournament, where they will play either Kentucky or Mississippi State this Friday in Nashville.

LSU men’s basketball started the second half on Saturday night on 15-0 run and went on to beat Missouri 75-55 at the PMAC. The Tigers are 8-8 in the SEC and in a four-way tie for sixth in the standings. LSU closes out the regular season at 18th-ranked Arkansas on Wednesday with the home finale Saturday versus 24th ranked Alabama. Will Wade is hoping his team can get hot again as the calendar flips to March.

Lots of action on the diamond this weekend. Louisiana Tech dropped 2 of 3 in its series against Tulane. UNO improved to 5-1 with a pair of wins over Kansas. Southeastern and UL-Monroe, took tough losses at home, and Nicholls evened its record at 4-4 with a win over Mississippi Valley. LSU outscored Towson and Southern 26-1 while taking two at the Box.

After spending nine seasons at Louisiana Tech, Joe Sloan is the new LSU quarterbacks coach. Sloan says he has spent his few weeks in Baton Rouge getting to know his Q-Bs…

The New Orleans Pelicans have won two in a row since the All-Star break. Last night they lapped the Lakers 123-95. CJ McCollum scored 22 points, Brandon Ingram added 19, and Jonas Valanciunas finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds

The New Orleans Saints will play a game in London this season. The date is yet to be announced.
