Police have identified the New Orleans Westin hotel shooter who allegedly shot his 24-year-old friend before turning the gun himself Sunday morning. They say 20-year-old Bajkanwar Aulakh is the one they believe pointed the gun at officers before a three hour long standoff ended with the man fatally killing himself. Aulakh reportedly was set to appear in a Lafayette courtroom the next day on charges of felony cyberstalking.

The dispute over Common Core heads to court today. This is the lawsuit filed by parents who think Governor Jindal didn’t have the authority to block the test associated with the education standards. As a result there is currently no test in place. Council for A better Louisiana President Barry Erwin says they hope Judge Todd Hernandez provides some clarity with an initial ruling..:

The Houma man who is accused of driving drunk into a house in a crash that claimed the life of a 2-year-old baby pleaded not guilty to multiple felonies in court Monday. 22-year-old Tony Milligan faces charges of vehicular homicide, first degree vehicular negligent injury, two counts of careless operation, hit and run and no seat belt. He remains in the Terrebonne Parish Jail on a $300,000 bond.
