The Saints picked up two players in last night’s first round of the NFL Draft. First, the Black & Gold selected offensive lineman Andrus Peat from Stanford. Peat was an A.P. second team All-American selection last season as well as an Outland Trophy finalist. With their second pick in the first round, the Saints drafted inside line backer Stephone Anthony from Clemson. The Saints have the 12th pick in the second round and the 11th and 14th picks in round three.

Former LSU offensive lineman La’el Collins did not get selected in the NFL Draft last night. Baton Rouge Police want to interview Collins about the shooting death of 29-year-old Brittney Mills. Although Collins is not considered a suspect in this case, the situation apparently raised enough concern that he was not drafted last night.

It took 14 innings for LSU to secure a 5-3 victory over Mississippi State last night. Third baseman Conner Hale’s two run double in the top of the 14th sealed the game for the Tigers. The win marks coach Paul Mainieri’s 400th career victory at LSU. These two teams will take the field again tonight at 7. It will be televised on ESPNU.

Also this weekend, Louisiana Tech hosts a three game Conference USA series against Texas-San Antonio.

In the Southland Conference, UNO hosts Abilene Christian, Nicholls State has a three-game home stand against Houston Baptist, Lamar is in Hammond to face Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin takes on McNeese State, and Northwestern State travels to South Bend, Indiana to meet Notre Dame.

In Sun Belt action, UL-Lafayette looks to extend its seven game winning streak when they travel to Appalachian State and ULM hosts Troy.
