Despite opposition from some local opponents, a bill allowing a parish-wide vote on establishing a casino in Slidell advances out of committee 8-2. Proponents for the St. Tammany Parish vote argue it would generate 8 million dollars a year in extra revenue for the parish. Opponents, like Lisa Clayton, argue casinos are magnets for sex trafficking.
