LSU baseball won a pair of games yesterday over two different opponents. The Tigers defeated Nicholls five to four in the first contest and they clobbered Southern 16 to one in the second game. Dylan Crews hit home runs in both games and Will Hellmers threw five shutout innings against the Jaguars.

In other action, McNeese edged U-L Lafayette four to three to drop the Cajuns record to seven and three. Cowboys Coach Justin Hill missed the game after testing positive for COVID-19.

ULM clobbered Grambling nine to one. Trace Henry and Wiley Cleland each drove in three runs. Southeastern Louisiana freshman Will Kinzeler struck out a career-high 13 as the Lions defeated Tulane six to one.

College basketball…Louisiana Tech tuned up for the conference USA Tournament by beating Our Lady of the Lake 99-66. UNO knocked off Northwestern State 92-83 and Southeastern Louisiana had a disappointing loss to Central Arkansas 88-71.

The Pelicans followed up their best win of the season by losing to Chicago last night for a second time this season as the Bulls held off New Orleans 128 to 124. Zion Williamson had 28 points but he was eight of 16 from the free-throw line…

The Pels host the Heat tonight and then it’s the All-Star break.

The Saints have terminated the contracts of veteran tight ends Jared Cook and Josh Hill. Cook was set to become a free agent, while Hill had one more year left on his deal. By releasing Hill, the Saints save three-million dollars against the cap. The team has also reportedly restructured the contract of defensive tackle David Onyemata that will reportedly save the team four million dollars against the 2021 salary cap.
