In other college football action, Louisiana Tech faces Southern Miss in Ruston and the winner advances to the Conference USA championship game.

In the high school football playoffs…the select championships are set…In Division One….Catholic will face Rummel as Catholic came back from a 21-0 deficit to beat Evangel in overtime last night.
In Division Two…St. Thomas More is in the state championship game for the first time ever as they’ll face Parkview Baptist, who knocked off the defending champs, U-HIGH.

In Division Three…Riverside Academy will take on Notre Dame and in Division Four…it will be St. Mary versus Southern Lab.

On the non-select side…IN Four-A…top seeded Neville advanced to the semifinals with a 42-14 win over North Desoto. Neville will play Easton who beat McDonogh number 35.

In Two-A,,,your semifinal matchups are Mangham versus Rayville and Kinder takes on Welsh. Kinder beat Welsh in the regular season.

In basketball…the Pelicans lost to the Clippers 111-90. Scary moment for New orleans as Anthony Davis needed help off the court after suffering a knee contusion.

Even with the dry summer, the supply of real Christmas Trees in Louisiana is still plenty. Christmas Tree Farmer Clark Gernon, owner of Shady Pond Tree Farm in Pearl River, says the trees are fine, just not as tall as they typically would be.

Gernon advises those searching for a tree to make sure you check the height of the display area before purchasing a Christmas tree. He says also measure the width to ensure it fits in your home.

Gernon says for the past 10 years, 70% of trees that leave his farm are Leyland Cypress Leighton Green trees. He says the shape of the tree is almost perfect.

Governor-elect John Bel Edwards will be at the 2015 Bayou Classic in New Orleans this weekend. Edwards will attend multiple events during the day and will also be involved in the coin toss at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, which takes place at 4:05 p.m. The Battle of the Bands takes place tonight at 6 p.m.

The Plaquemine Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday night. They say when officers arrived at the scene, they found 27-year-old Derick Askins dead from multiple gunshot wounds. While information is limited, authorities say Askins was a victim of a shooting once before, but do not believe this shooting is connected to the incident several years ago. The Police investigation is ongoing.

Alexandria Police say one is injured after an altercation and exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of a mall. They say officers responded to a report of shots fired between two vehicles Thursday night. Police say one person was transported to a hospital for what appears to be non life threatening injuries. Authorities say this incident was not related to Black Friday shopping. Their investigation is ongoing.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Mississippi man is under arrest accused of fatally stabbing his father and injuring his mother at their Gretna home Wednesday night after an argument over food. Authorities say 32-year-old Ronald Pritchett became enraged after his parents ordered fast food and didn’t get any for him. They say Pritchett kicked open his parent’s bedroom door and began stabbing them. Pritchett is charged with second degree murder and attempted second degree murder.

Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon reminds property insurance policyholders that the deadline to claim a rebate for the Citizens Assessment charged on their 2011 insurance policies is this December 31st. He says the department of insurance has a form that allows people to claim those assesments…

13-thousand policies have shifted from the insurer of last resort, Citizens, to private insurance companies according to Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon. Donelon says this is good news for private insurance policyholders, because they pay assessments to help Citzens cover damages in the event of another Katrina-level event…
