A Nike shoe designed for skateboarders and inspired by Louisiana mudbugs is generating some major buzz. It’s called the “Crawfish Shoe” and an employee at Rukus Board Shop in Baton Rouge worked with Nike to design it. 19-year-old Hunter Hulin says their Nike rep gave them the opportunity to customize a shoe about a year and a half ago…:

Hulin says people lined up outside the store a day before the shoe was released last Saturday and shelves were cleared throughout the state that day. The $105 Crawfish shoe will be available to the world on Saturday. Hulin says the shoe is red with maroon speckled suede to represent the crawfish…:

The Covington Police Department has arrested Richard Reed, the brother of the St. Tammany Parish District Attorney Walter Reed, on charges of sexual battery. Police Chief Tim Lentz says the incident occurred earlier this month when police were called to a restaurant…

Lentz says Reed also displayed a district attorney’s badge while trying to get an intoxicated woman out of trouble with police. He says he became suspicious of Reed’s intentions, so he reviewed surveillance video from the restaurant. Lentz says what he saw was disturbing…

Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell filed a lawsuit today against State Farm claiming the insurance company has created a culture of unsafe business practices when it comes to vehicle repairs. In a written statement, State Farm says the accusations in the lawsuit are not in line with its mission and history of vehicle safety advancements. But Assistant A-G Randy Ishee says State Farm steers its customers involved in a car accident to repair shops where the primary goal is cost-savings and not safety…

State Farm holds the largest share of auto insurance policies in Louisiana.

According to “The New York Times”, Louisiana leads the nation in the percentage of residents born in-state. The data shows that in 2012, 79 percent of Louisiana residents were actually born in Bayou State. Nevada has the least native residents with just 25 percent born in-state.

The Black and Gold were flagged 22 times for 184 yards against Tennessee on Friday. And ESPN reports tight end Jimmy Graham faces more than 33-thousand dollars in fines for dunking the football twice through the goalposts in the win over the Titans. The NFL outlawed Graham’s celbratory dunk in the offseason.

One of LSU’s top recruits in the 2014 class is expected to start practicing soon for the Tigers. Defensive tackle Travonte Valentine was waiting for the NCAA Clearinghouse to approve his high school transprict. That approval came down yesterday and the Florida prep star could be with the team as early as today.

The LSU Tigers will hold a scrimmage this afternoon as there’s still no word from Coach Les Miles on who will start at quarterback in the season opener against Wisconsin. Badgers Coach Gary Anderson says he’s not naming a starting Q-B until gameday, it will be either Joel Stave or Tanner McEvoy.

In Lafayette, Cajuns Coach Mark Hudspeth is concerned about all of the injuries in the secondary. Junior safety TJ Worthy started ten games last season, but has missed over a week because of a concussion.

Hernandez is hearing the case filed by parents and teachers who support Common Core.

Louisiana State Police say they will not file any charges against the woman accused of causing a wreck that killed two children in Prairieville. The children were among a group of five who were fishing near Bluff Road in June when they were run over by an SUV. LSP says the case is now in the hands of the DA who will decide whether or not it should be reviewed by a grand jury.

This morning in Lafayette police say a woman was struck and killed by a truck as she was walking along US 90. The highway southbound is closed for now at Verot School Road while the crash is investigated.

The job picture in Louisiana is looking nice. The Louisiana Workforce Commission says several industry sectors hit all-time employment records in July, but executive director Curt Eysink says the unemployment rate grew likely due to more people coming to Louisiana because they know jobs are here…:

LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette says defensive tackle Travonte Valentine is expected to be officially cleared to join the Tigers at practice once he finishes the final stages of the admissions process from the NCAA. Once cleared, Valentine can’t practice until the four-day acclimation period is over, but once that happens the Tigers will be notably improved on the defensive line.

Louisiana Tech announced Monday wide receiver Sterling Griffin has been granted a 6th year of eligibility by the NCAA. Bulldogs Coach Skip Holtz says this is what the 6th year rule is for. Griffin struggled with injuries his entire career, but is in good health in his second season with Tech. He had 33 catches for 357 yards last season.

ULM Head Coach Todd Berry released a new depth chart yesterday afternoon and there’s only a notable difference at quarterback. Senior Pete Thomas is still the starter, but junior Brayle Brown is now at No. 3 behind fellow junior Chazz Carrington.
