Southeastern Louisiana football returns back to Hammond as the Lions face Nicholls State tonight at 6 p.m. in the 36th edition of the River Bell Classic. It’s a must-win game for the Lions as they look to get into the 24-team FCS Playoffs.

Last night, Louisiana Tech men’s basketball dropped to 2-and-2 on the season after losing at Indiana State by a score of 60-51.

UL-Lafayette faces Arkansas State tonight, as the Cajuns look to win their third straight game. The Cajuns are 1-and-4 on the road this season, and head coach Michael Desormeaux (DEZ-er-moe) says his team has to find a way to win on the road as they are just two wins away from becoming bowl eligible.

The second round of the Louisiana High School football playoffs begins tomorrow night. Today, we are looking at the Select matchups. In Division Four, Spencer Verrett with the LHSAA network, says two historically storied programs meet in Monroe as Southern Lab visits Ouachita Christian, and he says this game could go either way.

New Orleans is bracing for a two-month immigration enforcement operation. Some 250 Border Patrol agents will be fanning out in commercial areas and neighborhoods in the city and surrounding areas, with the goal of arresting five-thousand people on immigration violations. Congressman Troy Carter is not happy about it – he says those agents do not bring a sense of security; they only strike fear.

Graduating seniors from Louisiana high schools will have something special on their diplomas. Governor Landry announced that in honor of the country’s 250th birthday, those graduates will have a commemorative America 250 seal on their diplomas.

The Class of 2026 will also be the first one eligible for Louisiana’s Freedom Seal endorsement, recognizing students who excel in civics education.

The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission continues to make sure younger children are properly restrained in a child safety seat. That requires a car seat that’s properly installed and is the right type for the child’s age and size. LHSC Director Lisa Freeman says many caretakers do not know how to properly install a child seat.

250 Boarder Patrol agents are coming to New Orleans next month as part of President Trump’s immigration crackdown and not everyone is happy about it. In other cities protesters have posted video of agents’ activities. Former New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas says agents are wearing masks to conceal their identities for their own safety and the safety of their families.

Louisiana Highway Safety Commission Director Lisa Freeman says many don’t know how to properly install a child seat so the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force is providing child seat safety information cards to the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association, which will distribute the cards to its dealers and their customers. Freeman hopes this will result in more properly restrained children.

In honor of the 250th birthday of these United States, Louisiana high school class of 2026 are receiving a commemorative America 250 seal on their diplomas. And Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley says this class will be the first eligible for a new recognition as part of the state’s Freedom Framework initiative adopted in 2022.

Lainey Wilson from the tiny town of Baskin in Franklin Parish won big at the Country Music Awards last night. She not only hosted the show, she took the honor of Entertainer of the Year, and for the fourth time, she was named female vocalist of the year. A LEAP remediation specialist with the East Baton Rouge Parish School System is facing child sex charges. Authorities say 62-year-old Michael Dauzat thought his alleged explicit conversations on social media were with a 15-year-old boy but they were actually with Louisiana State Police and the FBI. Dauzat allegedly arranged to meet the believed the 15-year-old child for sexual activity. He was arrested when he arrived at the meeting location. State Police say Dauzat faces one count each of computer-aided solicitation of a minor and indecent behavior with juveniles.

President Trumps crackdown on illegal immigration is coming to New Orleans as soon as December first. Congressman Troy Carter says Border Patrol strike fear in communities. In prior operations, agents were seen on video detaining U.S. citizens. Former New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas says those may have been instances where someone was interfering with a law enforcement operation.

A Driver opened fire killing two people and injuring a third in Shreveport last night. Shreveport police say the shootout happened as two drivers drove down Clyde Fant Parkway. The shooting caused one vehicle to run off the road. Officers found three people in the car. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene and the other person was transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Police have no suspects and urge anyone with details to contact the Shreveport Police Department.

Kiffin spoke on Wednesday on the SEC Football Coaches’ weekly teleconference. He was asked multiple times about his coaching future and the rumors about his potential departure from Oxford. Kiffin said several times he does not talk about other coaching jobs.

In basketball…Derik Queen had 30 points, but the Pelicans lost again to the Nuggets 125 to 118. La Tech fell at Indiana State 60-51.

U-L Lafayette is without seven players, six on the defensive side, as they are serving suspensions for the postgame scuffle that took place with Texas State. Coach Michael Desormeaux’s secondary is depleted so the defensive line needs to get after the quarterback….

Three former employees at a Lake Charles Christian school are arrested for allegedly covering up sexual assaults at the school from earlier this year. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Stitch Guillory says there was a culture on the Hamilton Christian School football team in which older players would haze the younger players.

Lincoln Parish is mourning the death of Ruston Fire Chief Chris Womack. He died at the age of 54 after a brief battle with cancer. Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker says Chief Womack started with the Ruston Fire Department in the early 1990s.

Walker says during Womack’s time as Fire Chief, the Ruston Fire Department achieved a Class 1 rating for the first time in the city’s history. He says Womack also played a critical role in the construction of a new fire station and fire tower for training.

College football reporters had a chance today to ask Lane Kiffin about his coaching future. Jeff Palermo has more on what the Ole Miss coach had to say and didn’t say….

There’s a good chance Saturday’s match-up will be a battle of the backup quarterbacks if Michael Van Buren gets his second straight start, as Hilltoppers head coach Tyson Helton says backup Rodney Tisdale Jr. has done enough to continue to start this season.

LSU interim head football coach Frank Wilson told the media on the SEC coaches’ weekly media teleconference that quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is doubtful for the Tigers’ last game in Tiger Stadium this season against Western Kentucky.

Falcons starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. suffered a season-ending knee injury in last week’s loss to the Carolina Panthers. In order to stop veteran backup quarterback Kirk Cousins this Sunday, Saints head coach Kellen Moore says the team will have to rely on a collective defensive performance.

New Orleans released wide receiver Brandin Cooks today. After not finding a trade partner at the trade deadline, Cooks will become a free agent. Cooks was originally drafted by the Saints in 2014 until he was traded to New England in 2017.

Last night, the LSU men’s basketball team remained undefeated to improve to 4-and-0 after defeating Alcorn State by a score of 107-81.
