The LSU Board of Supervisors moves to authorize new President Wade Rousse to officially fire former football coach Brian Kelly. The board made that move during a special called meeting in response to a lawsuit Kelly filed against the school. Board Chair Scott Ballard announced the unanimous passage of John Carmouche’s motion.

LSU sophomore quarterback Michael Van Buren came into Baton Rouge to serve as the backup to senior Garrett Nussmeier in hopes to eventually become the starter. Now, Van Buren is making his second straight start this weekend against Western Kentucky. Even with all the coaching changes, Van Buren is glad he ended up at LSU.

Van Buren said that he will stay with the program through the coaching changes.

Last night, UL- Lafayette football defeated Arkansas State by a score of 34-30 to improve to 5 and 6 on the season. The Cajuns’ postgame hopes were in jeopardy as UL was 2-and-6 at one point, but the team is now one win away for being bowl eligible. Head coach Michael Desormeaux (DEZ-er-moe) says he’s proud of his team.

Louisiana Tech leads the Conference USA and is number-16 in the nation in most penalties with 76 through ten games. Cumbie said that the Bulldogs have to do better of being disciplined, but said the team may be getting called for more penalties since they are leaving Conference USA for the Sun Belt next year.

This fall has been so dry that 40-percent of the state is now in a drought. But for some – some – there is relief on the way. Parts of the northern parishes could get up to two inches of rain in the next seven days. But State Climatologist Jay Grymes says the southern parishes will have to settle for only about a quarter of an inch.

The Ragin Cajuns bowl hopes are still alive after holding on to beat Arkansas State 34 to 30 last night. It was a gut check win for U-L Lafayette who was without three starters in the defensive secondary, because of suspensions from a brawl that took place at the end of the Texas State game.

Southeastern Louisiana won the River Bell Classic over Nicholls 38-26 and the 9-and-3 Lions should be in the 24-team F-C-S Playoff field when its announced on Sunday.

Louisiana high school football playoffs are in their second round tonight. In Division Two, the Franklin Parish Patriots host the Lutcher Bulldogs. Spencer Verrett of the LHSAA Network says he could see either team making a run, but he expects the Patriots to come out on top.
