Sophomore running back Caden Durham is questionable with an ankle injury while tight end Trey’Dez Green and linebacker West Weeks are both probable. Kickoff in Oxford is at 2:30 p.m.

UL-Lafayette will host Marshall Saturday at 7 p.m. in what will be a rematch of the 2024 Sun-Belt Championship game where the Herd blew out the Cajuns by a score of 31 to 3. The Cajuns are looking to start fresh with conference play this week after starting the season 1 and 3.

Louisiana Tech travels to El Paso to face UTEP on Saturday at 8 p.m.

The Saints are desperately looking to get into the win column after losing the first three games of the season. In their 44-13 blowout loss to Seattle, New Orleans was charged with 11 penalties for 77 yards, including several false starts. Quarterback Spencer Rattler says the team has to get better with limiting penalties so that the offense can operate smoother.

After a much-needed bye week, Southern will host Jackson State Saturday at 6 p.m. in the BoomBox Classic. The Jags are trying to win their first game against the Tigers since 2020.

Grambling State will travel to Texas to take on Prairie View A&M on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Tigers are looking to keep its momentum going after two straight wins.

An Amite man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after pleading guilty to killing a 35-year-old woman and her four-year-old daughter. Daniel Callihan’s attorney, Kerry Cuccia, says his client is a different person than he was 15 months ago.

The family of Southern University student Caleb Wilson has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against multiple chapters of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity, including the Beta Sigma chapter on Southern’s campus. Wilson died this year in what police are calling a hazing ritual in which he was punched in the chest by members of the fraternity.

Early voting ends October 4th, and the election is October 11th. If no one reaches the 50-percent-plus-one threshold, a runoff between the top two votegetters will be held November 15th.

An Amite man pleaded guilty to first-degree murder charges in the death of a 35-year-old woman and her four-year-old daughter. Prosecutors say Daniel Callihan stabbed to death Callie Brunett 50-times in Loranger in June of 2024 and took her girls to Hinds County, Mississippi. That’s where four-year-old Erin Brunett was found dead. District Attorney Scott Perrilloux says Callihan will serve two life sentences with no possibility of parole…

By pleading guilty, Callihan avoids the possibility of a death sentence. Perrilloux says capital punishment cases are difficult to prosecute, so avoiding a trial and getting a guilty plea is a positive result.

Cut 7 (09) “…great benefit.”

Callihan also kidnapped Brunett’s six-year-old daughter and he intended to keep her as a sex slave. After he was apprehended in Mississippi, Callihan told reporters as he was being walked by Jackson, Mississippi police that he killed Brunett and her daughter and blamed it on being on Lexapro.

Callihan’s attorney, Kerry Cuccia, says his client is a different person than he was 15 months ago…

Callihan is also expected to plead guilty on Monday to state charges in Mississippi. He will also be sentenced in November to federal crimes he pleaded guilty to last month.

The Brunett family issued a statement, wishing him “nightmares every night for the rest of his life.”

In tomorrow’s SEC showdown between 4th ranked LSU and 13th ranked Ole Miss, the Tigers could have success running the football. The Rebels have the 120th rush defense in the nation, allowing 190 yards on the ground a game. CEO Adam Knapp says between now and 2030, there will consistently be about ten-thousand people working on projects that include the Meta Data Center in Richland Parish and the Hyundai steel plant in Ascension Parish.

Fourth-ranked LSU hits the road to Oxford for its first SEC road game of the season tomorrow afternoon against number-13 Ole Miss. LSU senior cornerback Mansoor Delane (MAHN-soor duh-LANE) says he embraces the villain role.

Coach Brian Kelly has announced edge rusher Gabe Reliford will miss the rest of the season because of a torn rotator cuff.  Running back Caden Durham is questionable with an ankle injury. Kick off in Oxford is at 2:30.

In high school football action, Acadiana won its first game of the season beating New Iberia 61-0, Oak Grove thumped Rayville 50 to 18, Ruston beat Midland-Legacy from Texas 49 to 21, Tioga over Richwood 54-30, and Captain-Shreve outscored Benton 59-48, Tonight…Neville at St Thomas More.

 

ULM looks to make it two wins in this Saturday when they host Arkansas State. Warhawks sophomore quarterback Aidan Armenta is starting to get more comfortable with the offense through each start. Armenta had one of his best games last week in win over UTEP, throwing for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Coach Bryant Vincent says it’s evident Armenta is getting more confident.

A Tangipahoa Parish man who killed a 35-year-old woman and her four-year-old daughter in June of 2024 pleaded guilty this morning to the double murder. By entering a guilty plea, Daniel Callihan avoids the death penalty as he was sentenced to two mandatory life sentences. He’s also expected to plead guilty charges to charges in Mississippi. That’s where the four year old girl Erin Brunett was found dead.

 

The state is moving closer to its goal of having an educational attainment rate of 60-percent. The Board of Regents says it’s currently 52.5 percent, more than a full percentage point higher than last year. The education attainment rate is the proportion of people between the ages of 25 and 64 that have a credential beyond a high school diploma. Dr. Tristan Denley…
