A St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputy is receiving a lot of social media attention following a photo of a traffic stop. The driver who was traveling to a funeral was going 20 miles over the speed limit and the photo shared over 2500 times shows Deputy Dustin Byers tying that driver’s tie for him.

Murrill also announced today that she has filed a petition seeking full Fifth Circuit review of Louisiana’s Ten Commandments law. Last week, a 3 judge panel of the fifth circuit court of appeals upheld a lower court ruling blocking the law that would require all public classrooms display the Commandments.

Months after a man interrupted the Super Bowl half-time show as he waved a Sudanese flag across the Superdome field, an arrest has been made.  State Police say 41-year-old Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu turned himself in Thursday and was booked on charges of resisting an officer and disturbing the peace by interruption of a lawful assembly. Investigators said Nantambu, a hired Superbowl extra, broke from his role, retrieved a flag with the message “Sudan and Free Gaza,” and ran across the field during the live performance.

The post was shared over 2500 times. Deputy Byers did issue the driver a citation as the speed was 20 miles over the limit. Hopefully, the driver can take the defensive driver course and get his citation dismissed.

The sheriff’s office posted the photo of Deputy Byers tying the driver’s tie on its Facebook page, and it’s been shared more than 25-hundred times and has received more than 17-hundred comments. The driver was going 20 miles over the speed limit; and in case you’re wondering, Messina says – yes – Deputy Byers did issue the driver a citation.

It was a packed house at Alex Box Stadium as fans celebrated LSU’s national championship, including East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sid Edwards and Governor Landry were on hand to pay tribute to the team that conquered the college baseball world.  Governor Landry said the team had a great leader in Head Coach Jay Johnson.

Doctors across the country are urging Congress not to make cuts to Medicaid. Among them is Dr. Betty Lo of Metairie, who says with Louisiana having an exceptionally high number of people dependent on Medicaid for health coverage, slashing Medicaid would have a devastating effect.

Doctors across the country are urging Congress not to make cuts to Medicaid as they debate the “One Big, Beautiful Bill.” Among them is Dr. Betty Lo of Metairie, who says she hopes lawmakers will prioritize people and their livelihoods over money.

Despite the bill sailing through the legislature, Governor Landry vetoes a bill that would have banned the release of balloons into the air, saying such a ban would be nearly impossible to enforce. Harahan representative John Illg authored House Bill 581 and says he learned through legislative debate that balloons were harming cattle on farms throughout the state.

Illg says he will file a revised version of the bill again next year.

It was a packed house at Alex Box Stadium as fans celebrated LSU’s national championship baseball team. College World Series Most Outstanding Player Kade Anderson finished the season with 180 strikeouts – third most in LSU history behind Ben McDonald and Paul Skenes. Anderson said he’s honored to be mentioned among such select company.
