AARP Louisiana is urging Governor Landry to veto Senate Bill 134, which would cap malpractice damages against nursing homes at 500-thousand dollars. The organization says it would effectively eliminate people’s ability to hold nursing homes accountable for malpractice. Director of Advocacy Andrew Muhl (“mull”) says nursing homes in Louisiana rank among the nation’s worst.

The bill’s author, Shreveport Republican Senator Thomas Pressly, says his bill clarifies the Medical Malpractice Act, which was always intended to include nursing homes.

A bill to largely ban speed cameras across the state – well, most of it, at least – is on Governor Landry’s desk. Monroe Republican Senator Stewart Cathey says he’s happy that he got his bill to the finish line.

However, Cathey’s bill was thrown a curveball as the House passed an amendment that exempts Opelousas from this ban. Cathey says he’ll work to eliminate that exception in a future session.

Another bill on Landry’s desk calls for a series of nutrition reforms. One major component involves banning certain artificial colors and additives in meals served in schools. Covington Republican Senator Patrick McMath says they’re part of the nationwide Make America Healthy Again movement.

The Mountaineers are an experienced bunch making their second straight Super Regional appearance, but after surviving a Regional scare from Little Rock last weekend, the Tigers are poised for a run to the College World Series. Sophomore shortstop Steven Milam says there isn’t a team in the country that can stop the Tigers at their best…

The winner of the best-of-three series will advance to the College World Series. First pitch at Alex Box Stadium is scheduled for 1:00.

Franklinton native and longtime women’s basketball coach Jessica Barber was named director of the Louisiana High School Coaches Association. Barber identified one of the biggest challenges coaches face as burnout and commitment among high school athletes. As an experienced assistant coach, Barber says building relationships and having fun should always be at the center of high school athletics.

Barber is the association’s fourth director and first female director.

The Pacers stole game one of the NBA Finals last night at OKC. Down nine with just under three minutes left, Indiana pulled off late-game heroics yet again. After a Shai Gilgeous-Alexander miss with 11 seconds left, Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton hit the game-winning 21-foot pull-up jumper with 0.3 on the clock. The Thunder will look to bounce back in game two Sunday night.

A Glenmora police officer is among three people arrested for allegedly shooting and killing two dogs. Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office says 33-year-old Glenmora Police Officer Steven Ware provided the rifle used to kill two dogs that 47-year-old Shyana Bordelon told a neighbor she would watch while the neighbor was out of town. Bordelon and her son, 26-year-old Murray Gros later reportedly called Glenmora police when Animal Control deemed it unnecessary to remove the dogs as the two requested. Officer Ware allegedly told Bordelon and Gros they could shoot the dogs. He then allegedly retrieved his personal rifle and Gros allegedly shot and buried the dogs.

Not everyone is happy with the “Big, Beautiful Bill” – among them, Elon Musk. He calls the bill, in his words, “an abomination” that’s full of pork spending. That’s led to a war of words between Musk and Trump that’s blown up in public. While some say the relationship between Trump and Musk is damaged beyond repair, Cassidy says it’s more like a lover’s tiff.

Cassidy says he’s confident that cooler heads will ultimately prevail and Trump and Musk will once again work together.

Governor Landry made the proclamation naming June 6th the day “All Louisiana drivers must recognize their responsibility to make safe and considerate choices while driving and driving with an unsecured load presents danger to the traveling public.” Highway Safety Representative Lisa Freeman warns that a 20-pound object that falls off the back of a vehicle will strike with a half-ton (or 1000 pound) impact.

The Super Regional between LSU and West Virginia kicks off at Alex Box Stadium tomorrow. The Mountaineers and Tigers have similar records with over 40 wins each. Tiger Rag editor Glen Guilbeau thinks LSU may have the upper hand, but that doesn’t mean this weekend’s series is a sure thing.

West Virginia and LSU both average close to eight runs a game, but the Tigers outslug the Mountaineers with 97 Home runs on the season compared to West Virginia’s 55. LSU will rely on aces Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson to hopefully avoid game three of the series altogether. The winner of the Baton Rouge Super Regional will head to Omaha and the College World Series. First pitch tomorrow is set for 1 p.m.

Rumors have swirled this offseason about Saints wide receiver Chris Olave’s future with the team, but Head Coach Kellen Moore says there’s nothing to the reports that the Black and Gold are looking to move the 24-year-old.

Olave topped 1,000 receiving yards each of his first two seasons before last year’s campaign was cut short by two concussions. The former first-round pick still has two years left on his rookie contract.
