The Saints fell behind 21-0 in the first quarter, rallied, but still lost to the Detroit Lions 33-28. But it was another slow start for the New Orleans defense as they allowed Detroit to march down the field on the opening drive to go up 7-0. The Lions scored two more touchdowns in the first quarter. Safety Tyrann Mathieu says they’ve identified the issues that’s resulted in slow starts

The Saints have been outscored 130 to 70 in the first halves of their last seven games.

For the third time this year, Saints quarterback Derek Carr was knocked out of the game as he was slammed down on the Superdome turf. The 32-year-old is back in concussion protocol and he also has shoulder and back injuries.

The 13th ranked LSU football team will play Wisconsin in the Reliaquest Bowl in Tampa on New Year’s Day. It’s the Tigers’ third appearance in the game and their first since 2013 when LSU defeated Iowa 21-14. ReliaQuest Bowl Chair Chris Roederer says it’s been about ten years since both teams played in this bowl game…

Get ready for a lot of Texas fans in New Orleans for the New Year’s weekend. The Longhorns will play Washington in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s night. It’s a national semifinal game. The other semifinal is Michigan versus Alabama in the Rose Bowl. Florida State is not in the four-team playoff despite an undefeated season.

The Ragin Cajuns will play Jacksonville State in the New Orleans Bowl on December 16th. Tulane will face Virginia Tech in the Military Bowl on December 27th in Annapolis, Maryland, but Coach Wille Fritz has left the Greenies to be new head coach at Houston.

A new documentary called “A Tall Order: The Louisiana State Capitol” debuts tonight on Louisiana Public Broadcasting at 7 PM. LPB Senior Producer Dorothy Kendrick says the 90-minute program will give viewers a new perspective of the 450-foot-tall building that features amazing art and architecture.

The documentary looks at how Governor Huey P. Long led the construction of the tallest capitol building in the country, designed after Nebraska’s state capitol.

In 1930, Kendrick says Long first proposed a measure to fund the construction of the 27-story structure but it failed in the regular session. She says after Long was elected to U-S Senate after being impeached, later that year…

The film also provides a glimpse at the blueprints of the great memorial hall and the friezes depicting the Bayou State history on the 450-foot structure.

Kendrick says viewers can see the architects who designed the soaring tower. They will also view commissioned artists who provided the adornments and craftsmanship.

After 14 months of construction, the Louisiana State Capitol opened in May 1932. The building cost $5 million to complete.

With a GOP super-majority in the legislature and a Republican governor about to be sworn in, leaders from both sides of the aisle are weighing in on issues they’ll address in 2024. Newly-elected chair of the House Democratic Caucus, and New Orleans Representative Matthew Williard says the first item they’ll address is the state’s congressional map.

New Iberia Senator-elect and former House GOP leader, Blake Miquez expects Governor-elect Jeff Landry will call a special session to address crime before the regular session in March.

The Saints fell behind by three touchdowns to the Detroit Lions, but got back into the game in the second half only to lose 33-28. The defeat drops New Orleans record to 5-and-7, as they have now lost three in a row. Coach Dennis Allen believes his team is still confident they can make a run for a playoff spot…

Cut 14 (10) “…break through”

Derek Carr threw for 226 yards and a touchdown. But his first pass of the game was intercepted and he left the game in the fourth quarter after taking a huge hit. Jameis Winston was just two of five for 41 yards.

Taysom Hill was the Saints’ leading rusher with 59 yards and a touchdown. He scored on a one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and that got New Orleans within three points, but could not complete the come back

The Union Parish Farmers knocked off Jena and will play in the Prep Classic for the fourth straight year as they take on St. James.

Accommodation” decal for their vehicle at no cost from the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles. The decal will indicate to law enforcement that an individual has a disability. Spokesperson Matt Boudreaux says the indicator can removed at any time without documentation, which will have a big effect on people on both sides.

A judge is expected to rule sometime next week in a lawsuit looking for a new run-off election in the race for Caddo Parish Sheriff. Candidate John Nickelson lost to Henry Whitehorn by a single vote after a re-count…and Nickleson’s attorney has presented some pretty compelling evidence to make their case. Political analyst Scott Hughes says if the judge rules in favor of a new election, it would happen in March.

The betting odds have LSU’s Jayden Daniels as the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy after last night’s Pac-12 championship game. Washington defeated Oregon 34-31. Ducks quarterback Bo Nix threw three touchdown passes, but he only threw for 239 yards. If Nix and the Ducks won, the former Auburn quarterback might have been the favorite to win the Heisman.

What a night of high school football last night as 13 teams punched their ticket to next week’s Prep Classic in the Ceasars Superdome.

For the first time in 67 years Opelousas will play for a state championship in football as the 12th seeded Tigers upset top seeded North Desoto 28-20.

Cecilia will play for a state title in football for the first time in 28 years as the Bulldogs knocked off Northwest 55-18. Cecilia will play its district rival Opelousas on Friday afternoon.

St. Charles Catholic will play in a state championship game for a fifth consecutive season after beating University High 10 to seven in overtime.

Union Parish knocked off Jena and will play St. James for a state championship. It’s the fourth straight year the Farmers have made it to the Prep Classic.

Haynesville will make its 26th state title appearance after beating Logansport and they’ll play Oak Grove on Thursday night.

The Ragin Cajuns are reportedly headed to the New Orleans Bowl and will play Jacksonsville State on December 16th. LSU will find out its bowl destination and opponent tomorrow. The Tigers are expected to play in Tampa, possibly against Notre Dame.

The Saints host the Lions on Sunday. Four starters out for New Orleans with injuries and defensive end Cam Jordan is questionable. Kick-off Sunday is at noon.

LSU All-American forward Angel Reese returned to the court last night after a two-week hiatus scoring 19 points and nine rebounds last night as the Lady Tigers defeated Virginia Tech 82-64. Reese says it felt good to be back.

For unknown reasons, Reese missed a home game against Texas Southern. She also missed games at SLU and two contests in the Cayman Island Classic. Reese also made 9 of 16 free throws
