Horne says he’s attended hundreds of LSU football games since 1970 and the team has never been present when the marching band plays the national anthem.

Landry has called on the state’s higher education boards to develop a policy for college athletic teams to be on the field or court when the national anthem is played and if not, they could lose their scholarship. Horne says it would be difficult to fit the football team on the field when the Golden Band from Tigerland plays the “Star Spangled Banner…

Millions are excited for Monday’s total solar eclipse but mother nature may have other plans. Gary Chatelain (Shat-ta-lane) with the National Weather Service in Shreveport says they’re expecting cloudy skies on Monday before strong storms arrive.

Chatelain says it will be mostly cloudy during the peak hours early Monday afternoon, but there is still a chance to see the moon block the sun.

Cut 10 (12) “…pretty limited. “

If you plan to travel to view the total eclipse, a storm system will push through north Louisiana by Monday afternoon. Chatelain says unfortunately Louisianans won’t get the full effect of the Great American Eclipse.

The total eclipse begins around 12:30 and ends by 3:10 in the Bayou State.

The Louisiana Political Hall of Fame will induct its 2024 class with a ceremony in Baton Rouge tomorrow (Saturday) night highlighted by two term Governor John Bel Edwards. Louisiana Political Museum director Shonna Moss says Edwards is being honored for his dedication of political service.

This year’s Hall of Fame includes seven new members. Louisiana Radio Network President Jim Engster is one of the inductees. Moss says Engster has been a talk show host since 1998.

The 2024 class also consists of former state representative Joe Delpit, former state senator Louis Lambert,  former newspaper reporter Ed Anderson who passed away in 2015, former Board of Regents chair Richard Lipsey, and former Louisiana Chemical Association president Dan Borne’.

The Louisiana Political Hall of Fame is located in Winnfield and has 243 members with the latest inductees.

That’s more like it. The 18th ranked LSU baseball team defeated sixth ranked Vanderbilt ten to six yesterday. Josh Pearson got the scoring started with a solo home run in the third inning. The Tigers scored six runs in that inning and three more in the fourth inning to chase Vandy starting pitcher Gresyen Carter. Luke Holman was the winning pitcher and Griffin Herring pitched 3.1 innings of shutout ball to earn his third save. Game two tonight at 7 PM.

The Ragin Cajuns and U-L-M Warhawks begin a three-game series tonight in Lafayette. The Cajuns have the nation’s longest winning streak at 12 games. The Warhawks are 3-and-6 in the Sun Belt.

Louisiana Tech is home to take on Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders have lost six in a row. Tech’s Ethan Bates has been named to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch list. He’s the first Bulldog player to be named to the list. He leads the Bulldogs in hits, RBIs and the country in saves.

When LSU hired Blake Baker as defensive coordinator, many wondered how he would maximize linebacker Harold Perkins. Baker says they are trying to find out what he does best and utilize his skill set….

Senate Transportation unanimously approves a bill to repeal legislation to install speed cameras on the I-10 Atchafalaya Basin Bridge. The bill would also reverse doubling speeding ticket fines. Bill co-author, New Iberia Senator Blake Miguez argues residents in his district can’t afford it.

The House Education Committee approves a bill that calls for the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every public classroom from elementary school to college on a ten to three vote. Co-Author of the bill, Haughton Representative Dodie Horton says several religions follow the Ten Commandments…

Horton’s legislation calls for the Ten Commandments to be displayed on a poster that would be purchased by private funds. Representative Barbara Freiberg believes Horton’s mandate for the displaying of the Ten Commandments sends the wrong message.

The U-S Supreme Court ruled that posting the Ten Commandments in classroom was unconstitutional because it violated the church and state clause.

Senate Transportation approves legislation that would repeal a bill to install speed cameras on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge between Baton Rouge and Lafayette. The bill would also reverse doubling the fine for a speeding ticket. New Iberia Senator Blake Miguez, co-author of the bill, believes local law enforcement is the better option to patrol that stretch of roadway.

Governor Landry has sent a letter to the state’s higher education boards calling on them to develop a policy that requires student-athletes to be present for the national anthem or risk losing their scholarships. The Louisiana Democratic Party says Landry is engaging in divisive rhetoric.

Global Seamless Tubes & Pipes has chosen northwest Louisiana as the site for its first U.S. production facility. The 35-million dollar investment will be made in the Desoto Parish town of Mansfield. Mansfield Mayor Thomas Jones says Global Seamless Tubes and Pipes will bring quality jobs to the local economy.

Will the weather cooperate for Monday’s eclipse? Northwest Louisiana is set to get the best look with totality at 90 to 95-percent. But the National Weather Service in Shreveport says confidence is increasing for the threat of strong to severe thunderstorms late on Monday. The probability of cloudy skies for eclipse viewing continues to increase as well.

Haughton Representative Dodie Horton is leading the effort for Louisiana to become the first state in the nation where it would be mandated for public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments.
