The vote was moved from Wednesday, and bill author New Iberia Representative Beau Beaullieu added amendments that the homestead exemption would remain intact and private donations would not be used to help defer costs for the convention.

18th ranked UL-Lafayette baseball will take on the second best team in the SunBelt when the Ragin Cajuns take on Troy in a big SunBelt road series. Sloppy play on the road caused the Cajuns to lose a major road series this season when they traveled to Coastal Carolina and Ragin Cajuns Head Coach Matt Deggs says that his team can’t give up any “freebies” to Troy if they want to take this key series.

LSU pitcher Nate Ackenhausen was reported as questionable for this weekend’s series against Texas A&M after LSU Head Coach Jay Johnson announced that Ackenhausen suffered a hamstring injury.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are on a 6 game winning streak dating back to their series clinching win over Dallas Baptist University on April 21st. Bulldogs Head Coach Lane Burroughs says that he is proud of how his team has performed this season and that LA Tech has put themselves in a really good position to make a run in the postseason.

During a transport from the Catahoula Correctional Center, an inmate was fatally shot. Brooke Thorington has more.

It took a jury just an hour to return a guilty verdict against Former Lafourche Parish Art Teacher, 64-year-old Ralph Cheramie. He faces a combined total of over one hundred years in prison for sexually abusing a student while he was a teacher at a middle school in 2009. The victim reported the crime to school officials at the time but little action was taken. Years later she reported directly to law enforcement. The testimony of another of Cheramie’s victim’s was reportedly crucial in showing his pattern and method of grooming young students.

Police have arrested 34-year-old Foreign National Amanvir (uh man ver) Singh in the shooting death of 36-year-old long-haul truck driver, Gurpreet Singh Judge. The shooting occurred alongside Interstate 20 in Caddo Parish last month and Wednesday night, Singh was arrested in Flowood, Miss where he lives. Sgt. A Catahoula Correctional Center Inmate was fatally shot after allegedly faking an illness during transport and attacking two correctional officers. Lt. Jared Sandifer with the Louisiana State Police says it happened just outside of St. Francisville Wednesday morning.

The inmate has been identified as 46-year-old Raymond Huddleston of Baton Rouge. He was being transported to a court hearing.

Caddo sheriff’s investigators said Singh and Judge knew each other and the shooting was not random road rage. Extradition efforts are pending.

A Catahoula Correctional Center Inmate was fatally shot after allegedly faking an illness during transport and attacking two correctional officers. Lt. Jared Sandifer with the Louisiana State Police says it happened just outside of St. Francisville Wednesday morning.

The inmate has been identified as 46-year-old Raymond Huddleston of Baton Rouge. He was being transported to a court hearing.

Sandifer says Huddleston was able to disarm one of the correctional officers, and that officer was able to retrieve the firearm. He says Huddleston also tried to drive off in the van.

Despite officers rendering aid after Huddleston was shot, he died from his injuries.  Sandifer says state police are investigating and it appears before Huddleston faked a seizure, he was able to remove his restraints.

Authorities have made an arrest in connection with the April 23rd fatal road rage shooting on I-20 ramp. The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office says the suspect was taken into custody in Mississippi. They arrested the driver of the dark-colored acura suv who got into a verbal altercation with the victim who tried to run away.  Witnesses say the driver of the SUV followed and reportedly “executed” the victim, Gurpreet Singh Judge and then suspect then fled the scene.

The Saints have signed former Lions cornerback Will Harris. to a one year deal. Harris is a former third round pick in 2019 and spent five seasons in Detroit, playing outside corner, slot corner and some safety. In 81 career games, he has two interceptions, two forced fumbles and 14 passes defensed.

LSU men’s basketball has added Richmond graduate guard Dji (jai) Bailey to its roster. Bailey won the Atlantic 10’s Most Improved Player of the year award. During four years at Richmond, Bailey averaged 10 points, 4 rebounds, and nearly two steals per game. Bailey will join Cam Carter from Kansas State and Jordan Sears from UT Martin in the 2024 transfer class.

D1 baseball released its latest Field of 64 projections and they do not have the LSU Tigers making the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Tigers can greatly improve their chances if they can win this weekend’s series against top ranked Texas A-and-M. D-1 baseball does have U-L and La Tech in a regional.

The 18th ranked Ragin Cajuns baseball team has a tough series this weekend at Troy. UL-Lafayette is currently on top of the Sun Belt standings at 17 and 4 while Troy is 14 and 7. Cajuns Coach Matt Deggs has a healthy respect for the Trojans.
