People across the country are still talking about Thursday’s presidential debate. Mel Bridges has the details from Tulane Associate Professor of Political Science Brian Brox.

Congressmen Troy Carter and Clay Higgins have introduced bipartisan legislation to protect Americans from contaminated seafood. He says He says the bill protects consumers and Louisiana Seafood farmers who are following the safety guidelines.

A secret indictment handed up by a Caddo Parish grand jury Thursday accuses a Shreveport man of manslaughter in the shooting death of a 12 year old in May. 32 year old Kelvin Boles was arrested by Shreveport police Friday. Boles is accused in the deadly shooting of Jaylen Coleman who was reportedly breaking into Boles’ car outside his home in the 8900 block of Hawthorne Drive on May 11.

A former U-L Lafayette softball hero is headed back home to lead the Cajuns as head coach. That announcement came yesterday. Alyson Habetz helped lead the Cajuns to the Women’s College World Series in 1993 and won a national championship in 2012 as Alabama’s associate head coach. She takes over a program that’s dominated the Sun Belt Conference but has not been to the W-C-W-S since 2014…

Tulane Associate Professor of Political Science Brian Brox says former President Trump delivered about what was expected from him…as for President Biden.

New Orleans Democrat Representative Mandie Landry posted her thoughts about the presidential debate on social media. She says said even though she couldn’t watch it on TV and get the full impact she did watch it on her cellphone.

The Pelicans have traded for an All-Star point guard. New Orleans has reportedly acquired 27-year-old Dejounte (di-JHOHN-tay) Murray from the Atlanta Hawks for Larry Nance Junior, Dyson Daniels, E-J Liddell and two first round picks, one in 2025 and the other in 2027. Murray averaged 23 points, five rebounds and six assists last season for a bad Hawks team. Murray also shot 36-percent from three-point territory last season. He also previously won NBA All-defensive honors and led the league in steals in 2022.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball has announced the signing of Kaden Cooper a transfer from Oklahoma. He’s six-foot-five, 190 pounds and appeared in 15 games with the Sooners as a freshman, averaging two points and one rebound a game. He was ranked as the 60th best high school player in the country by Rivals 2023.

And on Monday, Texas and Oklahoma officially join the Southeastern Conference. The SEC will be 16 teams strong.

The LSU Board of Supervisors has approved contract extensions for several LSU coaches. For winning a national championship, gymnastics coach Jay Clark has received a four-year contract extension and a 125-thousand dollar raise. LSU track head coach Dennis Shaver received a five-year contract extension and Coach Beth Torina gets two more years added to her deal.

Tulane Associate Professor of Political Science Brian Brox says President Biden, who was looking to dispel rumors about his poor mental abilities, had much worse stage presence than Trump.

New Orleans Democrat Representative Mandie Landry posted her thoughts about the presidential debate on social media. She says Because of the extreme differences in the personalities of President Biden and former President Trump, Landry says she wasn’t surprised how they came across.

Daniel Callihan who confessed to killing Callie Brunett of Loranger and her 3-year-old daughter, Erin whose body was found near cages in a wooded area of Jackson, MS, and kidnapping both Erin and her sister, 6-year-old Jalie has now been charged in Federal Court. He was in a New Orleans Federal Court today and was charged with kidnapping and transporting minors for the purpose of criminal sexual activity. Callihan and his accused accomplice, Victori Cox were charged earlier this month in Mississippi and Louisiana.
