Nonstop flights between Shreveport and Nashville are coming in May. Mark Crawford, the airport business and development manager for the Shreveport Airport Authority, says they had been trying to get daily nonstops between the two for about eight years.

Allegiant Airlines is offering twice-weekly non-stop flights on Thursdays and Sundays on a seasonal basis. The trial flights begin May 22nd.

Louisiana Hwy 15 through the tiny Village of Baskin has been named “Lainey Wilson Highway” honoring the Baskin native and Country Music Association Award Winner. The Country Superstar was on hand Saturday as Northeast Louisiana Music Trail markers were dedicated to her musical beginnings. Also present was Lt. Gov. Nungesser who named her Louisiana Music Ambassador in 2022 the same year she was named New Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year. In 2023 she was named Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year.

Film industry leaders have told legislators if the film tax credit program is eliminated, hundreds of jobs will go away. But Connick says these tax credits mostly benefit producers who do not live in Louisiana…

Starting May 7th, you will need to upgrade your ID to a Real ID in order to board a flight. During a news conference at Baton Rouge Municipal Airport, Dan Casey, the commissioner of the Office of Motor Vehicles, says just a small percentage of those without Real ID would represent a lot of travelers.

Casey says getting a Real ID is easy. All you need to do is to go to your local OMV office and bring with you a birth certificate or passport and two pieces of mail, and your ID will be upgraded to a Real ID.

Casey says Louisiana has a long way to go to get everyone updated to Real ID.

The difference between a regular ID and a Real ID is that Real ID verification records are kept by the state. There is no additional charge to update your ID to a Real ID.

A second line shooting left two dead and 11 injured in the St. Roch (ROCK) neighborhood of New Orleans on Sunday. City officials say the shootings disrupted a cultural tradition. Sean Richardson reports.

Two high school football teams have been booted from the playoffs. The LHSAA says Ferriday is disqualified because of a brawl that broke out during the second quarter of their game against Lake Arthur. The Trojans were set to play at Welsh this Friday. And University High has lost its court hearing and a judge has sided with the LHSAA that the Cubs played two ineligible players this season.

Former LSU pitcher Paul Skenes was named National League Rookie of the Year last night. The Pirates first overall pick finished the season with an 11-and-3 record, 1.96 ERA, and 170 strikeouts. Skenes was also named an All-Star starter this season, earned an ALL-MLB selection, and is a finalist for the National League Cy Young Award.

The LSU football team dashed their college football playoff hopes with their third straight loss this weekend. After the loss, Head Coach Brian Kelly took blame for needing to be more involved in play calling. With new helmet communication this season, he says eliminating confusion is key…

After losing seven straight, the Saints have won back-to-back games with Interim Head Coach Darren Rizzi. Rizzi says Scantling, who has over 200 yards and three touchdowns, has been invaluable since starting his first game three weeks ago…

The seventh-ranked LSU women’s basketball team improved to 5-and-0 last night with a 98 to 59 win over Troy.

Southeastern edged out ULM for a 70 to 67 victory in Monroe.
And Louisiana Tech dominated Mississippi College 105 to 67.

Governor Landry has announced the deployment of nearly 1.4-billion dollars to bolster broadband connectivity throughout the state. Veneeth Iyengar (EYE-in-gur), the executive director of Connect L-A, says most of that money is staying local.

The governor’s office says this broadband deployment will expand connectivity to 140-thousand locations across the state, supporting 100 thousand households and 35-thousand small businesses.

Two people dead and eleven were injured in a mass shooting on Sunday during a second line parade in the St. Roch neighborhood of New Orleans. Still no arrests. New Orleans Councilman Eugene Green says is confident law enforcement will bring those involved to justice…

Is Governor Landry’s tax reform proposal in jeopardy? The House once again delayed a vote on House Bill 9 pushing it to today. That’s the bill that would broaden the sales tax base to include 41 services not currently being taxed. Pollster Bernie Pinsonat says the House may be discussing a plan “B” – raising the state sales tax rate from the current 4.45-percent to five-percent.

If that can’t pass, Landry’s whole plan could go up in smoke.

The fatal shootings during a second line parade in New Orleans disrupted a cultural tradition, leaving residents concerned about safety during public events. Councilman Eugene Green pledged to enhance community safety and strengthen local enforcement strategies.

Governor Landry awards nearly 1.4-billion dollars to bolster broadband connectivity throughout the state. Deer hunting season is temporarily closed in the Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Area. Shane Granier (gran-YAY) with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says when a tide gauge reaches a certain level, deer hunting is automatically closed.

Granier says it will reopen when levels drop below 2.5 feet.
