Lady Tigers guard Hailey Van Lith did not declare for the WNBA draft. She had 48 hours to do so following the loss to Iowa. But she is not returning to LSU. Van Lith has decided to enter the transfer portal after averaging 12 points a game this past season while learning the point guard position.

The Pelicans lost their third in a row last night, a 117 to 108 defeat to the Magic. And Zion Williamson has an injured finger. He did not play down the stretch in last night’s loss. New Orleans is trying to avoid the play-in tournament. They need to finish sixth or higher in the West and with six regular season games remaining, they are a half-a-game ahead of seventh place Sacramento and Phoenix. The Pels host San Antonio tomorrow.

Former Ragin Cajuns starting power forward Joe Charles plans on transferring to McNeese. Charles is from Carencro and averaged 11 points and 10 rebounds a game for U-L Lafayette this past season.

The Saints have signed another linebacker. Former Washington Commander Khaleke Hudson. The former Michigan Wolverine played mostly special teams for Washington after he was selected in the fifth round of the 2020 draft.

The LSU gymnastics team competes in the NCAA Regionals tonight. They are in the Fayetteville Regional and will need to finish in the top two of tonight’s four-team session in order to compete in the regional final.

Colorado State University hurricane researcher, Isaac Schluesche says the 2024 hurricane season is going to be an active one with 23 named storms, eleven hurricanes, and five major storms. He says record warm sea surface temperatures and the return of La Nina is why they anticipate such a busy hurricane season.

Isaac Schluesche says tropical systems including hurricanes thrive in warm waters and sea surface temperatures are outside the realm of anything he’s seen.

An affidavit shows that Repath punched one of Marsiglia’s friends in the head which started the altercation. Repath, who is from the New Orleans area, was in town to celebrate an upcoming wedding. The incident happened on March 23rd. Watts says detectives have surveillance video of the incident…

Senate Education Committee approves a bill to mandate a five-day school week. Two major amendments were added to Beth Mizell’s measure. One of them would allow school systems currently operating on a four-day school schedule to continue if this proposal becomes law. The other would allow A or B school systems to move to a four-day week if they wish. Mizell understands the concerns that some school systems have with her legislation…

The LSU Tigers have started SEC play with a 2 and 7 record and currently have a four game losing streak heading into this weeks series against Vanderbilt. LSU Head Coach Jay Johnson says that the Tigers losses are against Omaha contending teams and that there won’t be many breaks in conference play this season.

In baseball news across the state, McNeese had no trouble against Alcorn State last night. Junior Outfielder Conner Westenburg went 4 for 4 for the pokes and drove in four RBI’s as McNeese won 11 to 4.

And ULM defeated Northwestern State yesterday 10 to 6. The Warhawks were able to score all 10 of their runs with two outs in the inning and the game marked ULM’s first win in Natchitoches since 2013.

The New Orleans Pelicans are still winless in the month of April this season as the Magic defeated the Pelicans 117 to 108. The game marks New Orleans’s third straight loss and Pelicans Head Coach Willie Green says that his team can’t focus on the losses with six games left still to play in the season.

The Pelicans are now in sixth place in the Western standings and will host the Spurs tomorrow at 7 pm.

And Governor Jeff Landry wants college boards in Louisiana to implement policies that will put athletic scholarships at risk if student-athletes are not present for the national anthem. Governor Landry says that it’s a matter that deals with respect and unity.

The need for these changes came after LSU women’s basketball team was not present for the national anthem in their game against the Hawkeyes on Monday.

A bill to repeal the state’s income tax has been filed and awaits a hearing in the House Ways and Means Committee. Columbia Representative Neil Riser says it’s time to relieve Louisianans of rising costs by eliminating taxes.
