Since the Supreme Court says the most recent congressional map approved by lawmakers with two Black majority districts will be the one used in upcoming federal elections. Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry says anyone within the changed districts will know it long before it’s time to cast a vote.

Qualifying for the Congressional races is from July 17th to 19th.

Organizers say they are off to a strong start in the first month of the recall effort to oust embattled St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Christopher Tape. Noble-Bates Young with Family First St. Tammany says they’ve collected about 6,000 signatures but they’ll need to have 36,000 by October.

Tape ran unopposed and a recall effort began after criminal accusations of child sexual abuse more than two decades ago in New Mexico came to light.

The Louisiana Senate has approved the bill that creates the Gator Scholarship Program. The program would start by offering grants to families who are currently involved in the voucher program. It will eventually be open to all families. Senate President Cameron Henry says the E-S-A bill was amended so the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education will determine how fast the program will grow and who will be eligible…

A bill to ban transgender people from using school restrooms that match their gender identity but not their biological gender passed the Senate. New Orleans Senator Royce Duplessis believes the bill is a cultural war…

Some questioned why the Secretary of State’s office put a May 15th deadline on having a map in place when the election is not until November. Landry says it takes months to run a statewide election.

The bill’s author, Baton Rouge Senator Rick Edmonds, says this is a historic moment as the legislation will give parents options on where to send their child to school..

The E-S-A bill passed on a 24-15 vote. It still needs House approval. Opponents are concerned about the overall cost of the program which could be 500-million.

New Orleans Senator Royce Duplessis voted against the legislation. He says Education Savings Accounts are an abandonment of public education and its teachers…

The Gator Scholarship program would replace the state’s current voucher program which provides state tax dollars to low income families to help pay for non-public school tuition. The voucher program also can help a family move their child from a C, D or F-graded school.

The Gator Scholarship program would start by offering grants to families who currently involved in the voucher program. It will eventually open up to all families. LSU pitcher Gage Jump pitched a gem last night and the LSU Tigers won the first game of its series against Ole Miss by beating the Rebels five to one in a game that was delayed for about an hour and half by weather. Jump struck out eight hitters over six innings and gave up one run. LSU’s Luke Holman will try to duplicate that performance today.

Louisiana Tech plays a doubleheader today against Liberty to wrap up the regular season. The Bulldogs Adarius Myers drove in the go ahead run in the ninth last night as the Bulldogs defeated Liberty four to three.

The 21st ranked Ragin Cajuns could not finish their game with South Alabama last night. U-L Lafayette leads the Jaguars six to four in the sixth inning and the game will resume at 3 PM.

ULM’s baseball game was suspended in the bottom of the eighth with the Warhawks leading Arkansas State eight to four. The game will resume at 1 PM today.

Southeastern Louisiana clinched a spot in the Southland Tournament by sweeping Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi.

The highlight of the Saints 2024 schedule is Sean Payton’s return to the Superdome on October 17th. New Orleans and Payton’s Broncos will play on Thursday night football. Nola-dot-com’s Luke Johnson covers the Saints and says it’s a game the Saints should win…

Baton Rouge plastic surgeon Doctor “Tre” Doucet and two of his three children were killed Wednesday when their single-engine airplane broke apart en route to Louisville. Aaron McCarter with the NTSB says they will try to determine if human error, mechanical malfunction, or weather caused the crash.

Legislation mandating the 10 Commandments be displayed in public school and college classrooms passes in the Senate on a 30 to 8 vote. New Orleans Senator Royce Duplessis challenged Bossier City Senator Adam Bass who presented the House Bill in the upper chamber.

Duplessis said the bill is unconstitutional and violates the First Amendment by promoting one religion over another.

The Cuban government is asking not just to buy seeds and fertilizer from the US but also for assistance and expertise from US farmers to help them become more self-sustainable. Strain says America needs to have a presence in Cuba and if they don’t someone else will.
