The LSU baseball team refuses to lose. Down 5 to 1 and then 10 to 7, the Tigers rallied by scoring two runs in the eighth inning and two more runs in the ninth inning for an 11 to 10 win over South Carolina. Coach Jay Johnson says it was the best victory of the season…

Michael Braswell playing for the first time against his former school had the game winning hit. Steven Milam had four hits, Jake Brown had three hits, including a two-run homer and Fidel Ulloa was the winning pitcher. LSU will play again on Saturday at noon against the winner of today’s game between South Carolina and Kentucky.

The Ragin Cajuns will not play again until next week. They were bounced from the Sun Belt Tournament, losing both of their games. Yesterday they failed to hold on to a seven to one lead and lost ten to nine to James Madison.

Louisiana Tech plays Liberty at 12:30 today. The winner advances to the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament, the loser has to play tonight.

In the Southland Tourney…McNeese and Nicholls are both 2-0. The Colonels defeated Southeastern five to four in ten innings.

In the SWAC Tournament, Grambling lost to Florida A-and-M 17-7. The Tigers will try to get keep its season alive when they face Alabama State at noon.

Chances are you’ve already seen an influx of drivers on the road for the Memorial Day weekend and according to Triple A, more than 38 million road travelers will be moving about for the holiday. Triple A spokesperson Nick Chabarria (Cha-bear-ree-ah) said it’s the highest prediction of road warriors in their 24-year history of forecasts.

And more than five million will either be flying, catching a train, or boarding a cruise for Memorial Day weekend, for a total of close to 44 million travelers.

Regionally, which includes Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas, Chabarria estimates around four million people will be on the roadways. He says to pack some extra patience and give yourself plenty of travel time to reach your destination.

And when you fill up your tank this Memorial Day weekend compared to last year, Chabarria says you shouldn’t experience any surprises at the pump price-wise.

Sonnier says this means there will be 2,000 additional spots for young children to get a head start on their education. She says it’s so important because those children are more likely to read on grade level by third grade, complete high school, and go to college.

A lack of early childhood education programs can be costly. Sonnier says the state loses $1.3 billion annually when there are childcare breakdowns and businesses lose $762 million each year without a dependable workforce.

Sonnier says there’s a 13% return on investment for every dollar spent on early childhood education.

LSU legend Seimone Augustus was introduced yesterday as the Lady Tigers newest assistant women’s basketball coach. Augustus led the Lady Tigers to three straight final-four appearances and won four WNBA championships. She’s been thinking about diving into the coaching profession and an opening on Kim Mulkey’s staff gave her an opportunity at home…

A bill to classify two abortion-inducing drugs as controlled and dangerous substances is headed to the governor’s desk after receiving final legislative passage Thursday in the Louisiana Senate. New Orleans Democratic Senator Royce Duplessis voted against the measure because the medications are also used for other reproductive healthcare needs.

But bill author, Shreveport Senator Thomas Pressly argued the drugs will still be available and a person can possess them, if they obtain them with a valid prescription. Duplessis had some direct questions for Pressly.

And the Senate also restored teacher and support staff pay stipends of $2,000 and $1,000 respectively. The legislature adjourned Thursday for the holiday weekend and will return to the state capitol on Tuesday. And with the House expected to approve Senate changes to the budget, lawmakers could potentially wrap up the regular session early on Friday May 31st instead of Monday June 3rd.

LSU will try to improve to 3-and-0 in the SEC Tournament as they will face South Carolina in a winner’s bracket game. The Tigers have scored 20 runs in victories over Georgia and Kentucky. We’ll see if they can keep the bats going as the Tigers have won five straight SEC games. Thatcher Hurd is set to get the start on the mound for the Tigers. He’s struggled this season with a 2-and-4 record and a 6.49 ERA.

Earlier today in the SEC Tournament,. Kentucky eliminated Arkansas nine to six. So if the Tigers lose today, they’ll play the Wildcats tomorrow.

The top seeded Ragin Cajuns have been eliminated from the Sun Belt Tournament after losing to James Madison Ten to nine. U-L Lafayette took a seven to one lead with seven runs in the second inning, but the Dukes responded with a sixth run seventh inning to take the lead. L-P Langevin gave up three runs in 2.1 innings. The Cajuns will find out their postseason destination at 11 AM on Monday.

Strong storms forced Louisiana Tech off the field last night, three outs away from a victory over Middle Tennessee in the opening round of the Conference USA Tournament. The game resumed at 9 AM and it only took four and a half minutes for the Bulldogs to finish of their eight to two win over Middle Tennessee. Reed Smith was the winner pitcher and Grant Comeaux went four for four with 3 RBIs. The Bulldogs next game is Friday at 12:30. Coach Lane Burroughs….

Southern was also eliminated in the SWAC Tournament. Grambling plays Florida A-and-M in a SWAC winner’s bracket game tonight in Atlanta.

An 18-year-old male student at West Jefferson High School in Harvey was shot during dismissal from school today on the last day of the school year. The shooting took place across the street, but the school was immediately placed on Lockdown and the students all gathered in the gym for safe dismissal. According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the shooting victim was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing. No arrests have yet been made.
