A 58-yard field goal with two seconds left resulted in the Saints second consecutive loss as they dropped a heart breaker yesterday to the Atlanta Falcons, 26 to 24. The Dirty Birds did not score an offensive touchdown, but scored one touchdown on a muffed punt and the other came on a pick six. Coach Dennis Allen says it’s tough to lose a game like that…

U.S. News and World Report has named Centenary College as a Top National Liberal Arts College. Schools in this category award at least half of their degrees in the arts and sciences. School President Dr. Christopher Holoman hopes this recognition will drive up applications.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff deputies are trying to determine what happened to a man found bludgeoned to the death and wrapped up in tarp on the side of Highway 51 between the Village of Tangipahoa and Fluker. The victim’s body was found Sunday morning and no suspects have been identified.

University Medical Center New Orleans is expanding its Center for Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery to meet the rising demand. The program added three new physicians and opened a new 16-bed Transitional Recovery Unit. Director Dr. Michael Cook says the center will provide specialized care for bariatric surgery and elective surgery patients.

Cook says the new unit aims to create a focused, supportive environment that promotes optimal recovery for patients.

UMC’s multidisciplinary team includes bariatric surgeons, dietitians, behavioral therapists, and nurse practitioners, all working together to support patients in achieving their weight loss goals. Cook says the expansion will allow the Center to provide more comprehensive care, addressing surgical and non-surgical needs to ensure patient success.

The expansion of the Center will see around one thousand patients annually.

Owners of pets who have cancer now have a place to go to for specialized treatment. The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine acquires a new linear accelerator to provide more advanced radiation treatment for the treatment of cancer in pets. Ginger Guttner with the LSU School of Medicine says previously, the machines would be the same ones to perform radiation treatment on humans.

Guttner says these new machines are tailored specifically for household pets.

Cut 8 (15) “…terms of positioning.”

Guttner says this new linear accelerator will ultimately allow for faster treatment for pets, who have to go under anesthesia in order for them to stay still.

LSU is the only place that has a linear accelerator on site; as such, the hospital sees patients from across the state and beyond.

The Saints gave the Falcons two touchdowns. One game came on a muffed punt, the other was a pick six. A pass interference call against Paulson Adebo also set up the game winning field goal. Coach Dennis Allen says it’s tough lose a game like that…

The Saints defense did not allow a touchdown and Adebo led the way with 12 tackles and three passes defensed….

LSU set the tone against South Alabama as early as early as can be, scoring on the first offensive play of the game and cruising to a 42-10 win at Death Valley. The opening score came on a 71-yard touchdown run by Caden Durham. Head Coach Brian Kelly says it was a great play call by Offensive Coordinator Joe Sloan.

In fact, Durham nearly had a second long touchdown run on LSU’s second play from scrimmage, but he was stopped at the one yard like. Garrett Nussmeier punched it in one play later for the first of two rushing touchdowns on the night, to go along with two touchdown passes and a career-high 409 yards passing. He, however, did throw two interceptions, the second of which led to a stern talking-to by Coach Kelly that went viral. Nussmeier said after the game he had no problem with Kelly’s approach after that second pick.

On the defensive side, Greg Penn the Third led the team with 14 tackles, including seven solo tackles. He said it was important that the defense get off to a good start, and that’s exactly what they accomplished.

LSU has the week off next week and returns to action October 12th against Ole Miss at Tiger Stadium.

The ULM Warhawks are 3-and-1 for the first time since 2014 after going on the road and defeating two-time Sun Belt Conference Champion Troy 13 to 9. The only touchdown of the game came in the fourth quarter on Ahmad Hardy’s one-yard touchdown run. Coach Bryant Vincent says his team is believing they can win anywhere…

Louisiana Tech dropped its conference opener as the offense continues to struggle, despite the defense keeping them in games. FIU defeated the Bulldogs 17 to 10. But Coach Sonny Cumbie was encouraged by the play of quarterback Evan Bullock, who was making his first start. Bullock threw for 217 yards and Cumbie says he led the offense well…

The United Way of Southwest Louisiana in Lake Charles is working to help its counterparts in Tallahassee provide relief for those impacted by Hurricane Helene. United Way of Southwest Louisiana President and CEO Denise Durel says the people of Florida could use your help.

As the Southeast continues recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene’s deadly punch, weather experts say there could be more trouble on the way, as an area of low pressure is expected to form over the Caribbean Sea by early next week. National Hurricane Center officials say that could become a tropical depression as it moves into the Western Gulf of Mexico by the middle of next week, so people along the Gulf Coast need to be on alert.

A Bossier City man who fled after an attempted traffic stop and had an altercation with a  Shreverport Police Officer on Wednesday has died.  The Caddo Parish Coronor’s Office says 54 year old Steven Cook died yesterday afternoon just before three. We’re told the incident and death remain under investigation by State Police.

And those are just the direct jobs.  Chief development officer at Louisiana Economic Development, Paige Carter says Amazon has made a commitment to the state that has supported many more indirect jobs.

The Shreveport police officer who died in a rollover crash yesterday afternoon has been identified.  Officer Matthew Rhoden, 37, died in the wreck. We’re told another officer, who has not yet been identified, was taken to Ochsner LSU Health hospital with life-threatening injuries.  The off-duty officers were in a blue Mustang traveling on W. 70th Street when it was hit by a van, skidded into a vacant house and rolled over.

Tragedy in Shreveport as a Shreveport police officer is killed in a rollover crash and another is critically hurt. Shreveport Police say the officers were in a private vehicle and were headed to work at around two Friday afternoon. The other officer was rushed to a hospital, and that officer’s injuries are life-threatening.Two other vehicles were involved in the crash. At this time, the circumstances surrounding the crash are unclear.

Saints linebacker Demario Davis has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Falcons. It’s the first time the 13-year vet will miss an NFL game due to an injury. The Pro Bowler will miss the game because of a hamstring injury. Offensive guard Cesar Ruiz will also miss Sunday’s game because of a knee injury. That means the Black and Gold are missing two starters on the o-line for this NFC South matchup.

Louisiana Tech begins Conference USA play on Saturday as they visit F-I-U. The Bulldogs have scored just eight offensive touchdowns in three games. Coach Sonny Cumbie admits players on offense are pressing to make big plays happen…

Three suspects are in custody for their alleged involvement in a shooting that left an 18-year-old girl dead in May. The Ruston Police Department says Haleei Newton was in a vehicle that was shot on I-20 on May 25. She was taken to a hospital at the time of the shooting and later died there. 19-year-old Jamion James, 18-year-old Emmanuel Seals, Jr. and 18-year-old Earnest Chatman are being held in the Lincoln Parish Detention Center, charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.

Site Manager Mark Brink says they’re starting with a guided hike exploring the ancient mounds and earthworks and highlighting the historical and natural significance of the site. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves to the two-hour trek to help pick up litter along the trail. The weather should be beautiful for the hike that begins at the museum at 10:00 AM.
