The U-L Lafayette athletics director Bryan Maggard has agreed to a contract extension through June 30th 2019. U-L Lafayette is also in the middle of a 65-million dollar renovation project of its football stadium.

Two LSU pitchers were selected by the New York Yankees in the Major League Baseball draft. Right-hander Thatcher Hurd went in the third round to the Bronx Bombers and in the sixth round, New York took left-hander Griffen Herring, raising the possibility Herring will not return to LSU.

Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney Scott Perrilloux says they will seek the death penalty against Danial Callihan, the man charged in the death of a Loranger women and her four-year-old daughter. 36-year-old Callihan is accused of killing 35-year-old Callie Brunett, kidnapping her daughters, and taking them to Mississippi. It was in Mississippi where the younger daughter was believed to be suffocated.  He also faces charges in Mississippi along with his accomplice 32-year-old Victoria Cox.  Callihan is being held in Louisiana and is awaiting trial.
