A third case of measels has popped up in Louisiana this week, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. We’re told the person is an international visitor who was not fully vaccinated. Measles is highly contagious and can spread rapidly among individuals who have not had the MMR vaccine. We’re told the individual who tested positive is hospitalized in isolation.

Experts say it remains to be seen whether the Saints will play their starters like they did last preseason, but most will be watching to see if the race to see how the race for second string QB may play out. Starting May 7, 2025, U.S. residents will need a REAL ID-compliant identification to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities. The REAL ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005 in response to the 9/11 attacks. Louisiana OMV Commissioner Dan Casey encourages travelers to check their current ID and, if necessary, visit the DMF for a REAL ID as early as possible to avoid travel disruptions.

Currently, only 25 percent of Louisiana residents have obtained a REAL ID.

In case you missed it, former LSU track and field great Sha’Carri Richardson won her first Olympic gold medal with the USA women’s 4×100 relay team in Parish late yesterday. Melissa Jefferson, Twanisha Terry, Gabby Thomas and Richardson finished with a time of 41.78, edging out Great Britain and Germany for the gold medal.

Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) has partnered with the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association (LADA) to launch the “Put the Brakes on Litter” campaign. A 32 year old Lake Charles man is behind bars this morning after police say he killed his father’s fiancee’ Thursday night. Jesse lee First is charged with second degree murder in the death of 54 year old Sherron Delafose, who was found unresponsive. First is being held on a million dollar bond.

The LSU Tigers landed a commitment on Friday from an in-state receiver. Speedy wide out Phillip Wright the Third gave his verbal pledge to the Tigers. The Destrehan star was previously committed to Michigan, but de-committed last week. Wright is five-foot-11, 175 pounds and he’s the third wide receiver commitment in the Class of 2025.

LSU also landed a commitment on Thursday from a four-star safety out of Nashville. CJ Jimcoily is the third defensive back to commit to LSU for the Class of 2025 in the last month.

Former LSU track star Sha’Carri Richarson won her first gold medal Friday as she took the baton on the final leg in the four by 100 and raced past the compeition to cross the finish line first. It’s the second medal for Richardson, who won the silver in the Paris Games in the 100 meters. The Summer Olympics come to a close on Sunday.

Edmonston says the laws stop mandates, it’s not a debate about vaccines it’s merely allowing parents to have their child opt out of immunizations.

LSU track star Sha’Carri Richardson let out a yell as she crossed the finish line to bring home the gold for the women’s relay team. Richardson captured her 2nd Olympic medal and her first gold medal with a come-from-behind anchor leg in the Olympic 4×100 Friday. The rain proved challenging for some, but the USA Women’s relay team handled a rain-slickened baton with smooth passes. Richardson ran her leg of the relay in 10.09 seconds to overcome runners from Britain and Germany beating Britain by 0.07 of a second.

The Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested three people in connection with the Hardwater Lake community burglary of the home of nursing home patients.  According to GPSO two Rapides Parish nursing home employees stole patients’ driver’s licenses and house keys and gave them to accomplices to perform the burglary. Kameron King, of Boyce, Tevin Landers, of Pineville, and Arnesia Burns of Alexandria, were arrested. A fourth arrest is pending for Lakita Landers.

Without a REAL ID, travelers boarding a plane must present an alternative form of acceptable identification, such as a U.S. passport, to board flights or enter secure federal buildings. The Department of Homeland Security has extended the deadline multiple times to give states and residents more time to comply, but Louisiana OMV Commissioner Dan Casey says May 7, 2025, is now the final deadline.

Governor John Bel Edwards vetoed two similar bills that Edmonston authored in 2023. The new laws pertain to public and private schools.
