A Rapides Parish Sheriff’s deputy is recovering after being shot by a patient at a psychiatric treatment facility. Tommy Carnline with the sheriff’s office says there was a disturbance between the patient and hospital employees, and the patient started fighting with a deputy who was trying to de-escalate the situation.

Both were taken to hospitals. The deputy was treated and released. The psychiatric patient remains hospitalized

He escaped the Tangipahoa Parish jail 6 months ago but Jamarcus Cyprian is back behind bars. He was discovered Wednesday hiding in a closet in Hammond. He was serving time for armed robbery and Sheriff Gerald Sticker says while out, Cyprian was traveling in and out of Louisiana likely committing crimes in Dallas. He adds, Cyprian was going to great lengths to change his appearance.

The tax reform package is heading to the governor’s desk after the house approved it today. Working individuals will see lower income taxes, but a higher state sales tax rate. The individual income tax rate would be a flat three-percent rate. The standard deduction would triple $12,500 dollars. Leesville Senator Mike Reese says this tax change will help grow the economy…

The state sales tax rate will go up from 4.45 percent to five percent for the next five years.

The early signing period begins December fourth, so it will be difficult for the Tigers to find another elite quarterback in this recruiting class.

On a 38-and-1 to vote the Louisiana Senate approved a bill that would raise the state’s sales tax from 4.45 percent to five percent for the next five years. While the state sales tax will increase, Louisiana residents will see their income taxes go down to a flat three percent and the standard deduction would grow from 45-hundred dollars to 12,500 dollars.

Today is the first day of Early voting for the December seventh election. Joel Watson with the Secretary of State’s office says turnout is expected to be low, which would be unfortunate since everyone will have something on their ballot…

Early voting will continue through November 30th, but polls will be closed on Sunday, Thanksgiving Day and next Friday.

A prison escapee’s run for freedom comes to an end. 20-year-old Jamarcus Cyprian escaped from the Tangipahoa Parish Jail back on May 16th; and on Wednesday, he was arrested at an apartment complex in Hammond. Cyprian was serving time for armed robbery. Sheriff Gerald Sticker says deputies were executing a search warrant in connection with a shooting at another apartment complex, in which he was identified as a person of interest.

It’s been a rough month for the LSU football program and it got worse yesterday as the nation’s top recruit for next season, quarterback Bryce Underwood, decommitted from the Tigers and will instead play for the Wolverines. Executive Editor of Tiger Rag Todd Horne says Underwood’s move came down to just one thing – money.

LSU’s NIL offer was a reported one-point-five million dollars a year.

On the field, the Tigers will look to snap a three-game losing streak when they host a Vanderbilt team that’s having its best season in years. The Commodores are 6-and-4 overall, 3-and-3 in the SEC.

The Ragin Cajuns host Troy tomorrow afternoon. Chandler Fields will start at quarterback for the injured Ben Woolridge. McNeese Coach Gary Goff is not saying who will start at quarterback when the Cowboys host Lamar tomorrow night.

ULM needs one more win to be bowl eligible. Coach Bryant Vincent’s team will try to get it done tomorrow against Arkansas State….

The Alliance for Affordable Energy has voiced concerns about the Meta data center project near Monroe. Executive Director Logan Burke argues that the facility contradicts the urgent need to transition away from fossil fuels and could impose significant costs on Louisiana ratepayers.

Amanda Moore, the senior director of the gulf program for the National Wildlife Federation, disagrees with Landry’s assertion that the project would destroy the culture of Coastal Louisiana and says without it, communities along the coast would be more vulnerable.

The project broke ground last year but has been stalled by litigation at both the state and federal levels.

There’s a strong belief the tax reform special session will come to an end with lawmakers approving a plan that will lower individual income taxes, but increase the state sales tax from 4.45 percent to five percent for at least five years. Legislators would also repeal the corporate franchise tax.

Governor Jeff Landry says a three-billion dollar coastal restoration project, , would break parts of Louisiana’s culture. Landry appeared before the Senate Transportation Committee expressing concern the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion would hurt commercial shrimping and oyster growing in southeast Louisiana. Meta cleared its first hurdle Wednesday on moving forward with its five-billion-dollar A-I Data Center in Richland Parish.  The Alliance for Affordable Energy, though, has voiced concerns about the project’s dependence on fossil fuels.  Executive Director Logan Burke says prioritizing clean energy could better serve both the climate and residents.

New Orleans Police want people to know the city is safe, despite a second deadly mass shooting in five days.  One person was killed and three others were injured yesterday in what investigators are calling a targeted shooting in the French Quarter. Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick says while violence usually picks up during the holiday season, murders are still down in New Orleans compared to last year.

State lawmakers could end the special tax session early as they settled on the final details of the Governor’s tax package late yesterday. The Senate is expected to approve the package first today, followed by the house.  Lawmakers technically have until 6 pm next Monday to wrap up the session.
