Big day for hunters in the Sportsmans Paradise as dove season kicks off here in Louisiana.  Dove season marks the beginning of the state’s fall hunting schedule.  Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Biologist Richards Temple  says it’s looking like this will be a great start to the season.

Temple also emphasizes the importance of adhering to daily bag limits, which are set at 15 doves per hunter per day.

It was the end of an era today in Lake Charles an iconic Lake Charles tower come down. The implosion of the Capitol One Tower took less than thirty seconds.  And was streamed live this morning at eight as the building, built in 1983, made its curtain call.  It was left damaged and desolate by Hurricane Laura’s 130 mile per hour plus winds four years ago. We’re told it will take several months to clean up the demolition site.

LSU football fans are hyped about the home opener tonight and they’re not the only ones.  Nicholls State head coach Tim Rebowe says his team is excited to take the field tonight in spite of the odds.  Rebowe says along with a huge payday, this game provides a great opportunity to get the word out about the school and the football team.

Six more neglected horses and ponies have been taken into custody by Louisiana humane groups, adding to a growing number of equine neglect cases.  HSLA Director Jeff Dorson attributes this surge to financial hardship among owners, who are struggling to afford proper feed, medical care, and shelter for their animals.

Dorson is urging the public to report any signs of animal neglect and to support rescue efforts through donations or adoption.

This matchup was postponed in 2020 by covid and Rebowe was excited to get it rescheduled.

The Ragin Cajuns will look to improve to 2-and-0 on Saturday when they face Conference USA newcomer Kennesaw State. In its first-ever game as an FBS member, the Owls lost to UTSA 27-16 last night.

ULM will try to go 2-and-0 on the season when the Warhawks host UAB. First meeting between these two schools since 1999.

In other action…McNeese visits Texas A-and-M, Northwestern State hosts Prairie View looking for its first win since November 2022, Grambling faces Tuskegee in the school’s first home night game in six years, Southeastern Louisiana is at Southern Miss and Tulane takes on 17th ranked Kansas State.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrests a juvenile during the overnight hours for allegedly making a social media threat to shoot up Iowa high school. The 15-year-old was taken into custody at around one this morning and has been booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.

The Lake Charles Skyline will be forever changed Saturday morning as the iconic Capital One Tower is set to be demolished. The implosion is scheduled for 8:00 A.M but the Lake Charles Police Department and Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be enforcing an exclusion zone beginning at 6:30 A.M. and anyone in the area near the Lake must be indoors for safety as dust and debris will be in the air. Anyone parking along I-10 to watch the implosion will be forced to leave and possibly towed.
