State health officials say they will comply with a ruling by a federal judge who says abortion doctors required to have hospital admitting privileges cannot be penalized during the application process. Center for Reproductive Rights Senior Council Janet Crepps says the law is medically unnecessary, harmful to women and they want to see it struck down in its entirety…

Louisiana State Police say a pedestrian who they believe had been drinking was struck and killed last night in LaFourche Parish. Trooper Evan Harrell says the victim, 26-year-old Jace Sevin of Lockport, was transported to St. Anne Hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries he sustained after being run over. He says alcohol is suspected on the part of the victim…

The Division of Administration announces that in the first two months of the fiscal year, the newly created Office of Technology Services has already saved the state more than 5-million dollars. Asst. Director of Technology Services Neal Underwood says previously all executive branch departments had their own IT staffs and did their own purchasing. He says by putting all of this under one department, they can make larger purchases driving the cost down…

There’s a chance some Saints fans in New Orleans will not be able to watch Sunday’s season opener against the Falcons. That’s because the Fox Affiliate in New Orleans is currently dark on DirectTV. The two sides are in negoitations for the channel to return to Direct TV, but for right now agreement has been reached.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s college football schedule, there’s an interesting in-state match-up. Louisiana Tech will travel to down to Lafayette to play the Ragin Cajuns. Expect to see freshman Gabe Fuselier to see more playing time after catching a couple of passes in UL Lafayette’ win over Southern. Meanwhile, Bulldogs head coach Skip Holtz wants to see better play from his defense after they allowed Oklahoma to jump out to a 31-to-nothing lead last Saturday. The Sooners went on to win 48-16.

Southeastern Louisiana remains ranked number three in the latest FCS polls. The Lions opened the season on Saturday with an easy 44 to 3 win over Jacksonville. The Lions are back in action this Saturday as they host Southern Utah in a match-up of two teams who were in the FCS playoffs last season.

McNeese State is ranked sixth and seventh in the FCS polls. The Cowboys will kick-off their season on Saturday at nationally ranked Nebraska.

The first Louisiana Sports Writers Association high school football polls are out. Acadiana is ranked number one in 5A.

Tropical Storm Dolly has formed overnight over the Bay of Campeche off of Mexico’s coast. Dolly is the fourth named storm of the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane season. The National Hurricane Center says Dolly will move inland along Mexico’s coast by morning and poses no threat to Louisiana.

Louisiana State Police say a pedestrian who could have been drunk was struck and killed around 8pm yesterday in Lafourche Parish. They say 26-year-old Jace Sevin of Lockport was hit by an Acura west on North Service Road in Raceland. Impairment is suspected on the part of Sevin. The other driver was cleared of wrong-doing.

The Baton Rouge Police Department says a man is in stable condition after he was shot by an officer when allegedly aggressively resisting a DWI arrest over the weekend. The officer, identified as Matthew Jackson, is on administrative leave while the incident is under investigation. They say 27-year-old Derek Davis is expected to survive despite multiple gunshot wounds in the upper torso.

The Morgan City Police Department says they’ve arrested a man from Plaquemine after he allegedly attacked a suspect he claims was trying to drown a 16-year-old girl in the Lake End Park area. They say witnesses told them 31-year-old Dusty Rineheart hit 39-year-old Max Cordova of Morgan City after seeing him holding the juveniles head under water. Cordova needed medical attention but was later arrested and booked on charges of molestation of a juvenile and simple battery. Rineheart was charged with 2nd degree battery.

State Police say a man from Maurepas man who wasn’t buckled up was killed early Monday in a single-vehicle crash on La 22. in Ascension Parish. They say 37-year-old Robert Falcon lost control of his Yukon and rolled down the road several times.

The Monroe Police Department says a man is under arrest on charges of second degree murder after allegedly stabbing a 24-year-old victim early on Labor Day. They say 56-year-old Donald Ray Myles is being held at the Ouachita Correctional Center on $150,000 bond.

The first panel of honors by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association has been selected for the 2014 college football season. Kenny Hillard was named the Offensive Player of the Week. Hillard’s second half of rushing helped get the LSU offense rolling in the tigers 28-24 comeback win over Wisconsin on Saturday. ULM’s Mitch Lane, who also made the ESPN Sports Center Top 10 plays in their win over Wake Forest got Defensive Player of the week. And Special teams player of the week went to Louisiana-Lafayette punter Daniel Cadona who in the opening week got best average in the nation.

The top 25 teams in the Coaches Football Championship Subdivision polls are out. Southeastern Louisiana made the No 3 spot after their 44-3 win over Jacksonville over the weekend. McNeese State came in at NO.6. The Cowboys kick off their season Saturday at Nebraska.

The Saints are preparing for Sunday’s season opener against Atlanta. The Black and Gold signed ten players to their practice squad Monday, including former LSU and McNeese State tight end Nick Jacobs and safety Pierre Warren. Warren played well in the preseason with ten tackles and an interception. Practice squad players are not on team’s 53-man rosters but they do get paid to train as if they are. They can also be promoted to the full team and signed to the 53-man rosters of other teams.

Making big national news Monday in sports, the Houston Astros have fired manager Bo Porter in his second season with the club. Apparently GM Jeff Luhnow says it doesn’t have anything to do with the record this year, which is the second worst in the league, but they want to take things in a new direction. Tom Lawless has been named interim manager for the Astros.

We now have our fourth named storm of the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane season as Tropical Storm Dolly formed overnight about 200 miles east of Tampico, Mexico. Once again forecasters say this system is not expected to threaten Louisiana.

A man-induced lake drawdown will begin as part of the False River Restoration project starting today. State Officials with the Pointe Coupee Parish Police Jury say the water redution will lower its level by up to three feet over the next 6 months. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries say the drawdown will improve False River’s water quality.
