For the second straight game, New Orleans couldn’t preserve a late lead. Coach Sean Payton says all they could do at this point is work on becoming a better team

Elsewhere in the NFC South, Carolina improved to 2-and-0 with a 24 to 7 win over Detroit, Cincinnati clobbered Atlanta 24 to 10. Former LSU Tiger Jeremy Hill had a touchdown run for the Bengals and Tampa Bay is 0-and-2 after losing at home to St. Louis 19 to 17.

There is a new insect that Louisiana homeowners should be aware of, especially if you have ornamental plants growing outside.  The pest is called a chilli thrip and LSU AgCenter horticulturist Allen Owings says they feed on about 250 different species of ornamental plants…

He says the chilli thrip feeds on the foliage of these plants instead of the flowers, like other thrip species.  Owings says if a plant is infected with chilli thrips, you’ll have some malformation or deformed new growth after a growth flush is initiated…

Owings says there are insecticides that can effectively deal with chilli thrips.  He says the best way to determine if a plant is infected is to place a white piece of paper under the plant and shake the plant and see what falls on the paper…

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals confirm 12 new cases of West Nile virus in the state this week, bringing this year’s total to 92 cases. Of the new infections, three are neuroinvasive disease cases, all occurring in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Monroe police say a man shot his ex-wife’s boyfriend in the parking lot of a daycare center. Assistant police chief Don Bartley says 32-year-old Marlando Honeycutt had just dropped off his girlfriend’s kids at the daycare center, when Lemerick Christopher walked up and confronted Honeycutt, shooting him in the face and chest. Bartley says Honeycutt is in stable condition. He says a dispute between Christopher and his ex-wife unfortunately turned violent…

Fort Polk has announced today a very highly decorated soldier from Missouri has died in a motor vehicle accident that took place at the Fort Polk Training area. Twenty-two year-old Silas Jones was a cannon crew member, who joined the army two years ago. Another soldier was injured and that accident is under investigation.

An Ascension Parish jury has found a Gonzales man guilty of molesting a young girl. 40 year-old Joseph Scott Mckinney molested the young girl numerous times when she was between the ages of 6 to 13. McKinney faces up to 99 years in prison.
