The Saints seven-game losing streak has cost coach Dennis Allen’s job. Multiple media outlets are reporting Allen was fired this morning after New Orleans lost to the Carolina Panthers 23 to 22 yesterday. It’s the first time in 44 years that the Saints have fired a coach mid-season.

A tropical depression has formed in the Caribbean and it’s expected to grow into a hurricane and enter the Gulf of Mexico. Southeast Louisiana is in the cone of uncertainty, but the storm could weaken as it moves towards the northern Gulf coast.

Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge is looking for participants to as they conduct a study to see if Ozempic can be used to risk of developing type 2 diabetes specifically in women who were diagnosed with gestational diabetes during their pregnancy. The National Hurricane Center says potential tropical storm cyclone 18 in the Caribbean will enter the southwestern Gulf of Mexico as a hurricane later this week and head towards the Louisiana coast. Southeast Louisiana is in the cone of uncertainty. The storm is expected to weaken to a tropical storm as it moves towards the Northern Gulf Coast.

High school marching bands from around the state will compete in Lake Charles over the next three days in the inaugural Louisiana State Marching Band Championship. Louisiana Music Educators Association President Lee Hicks says the marching bands will be judged on how they perform at this event…

The Saints’ losing streak is now seven after losing to one of the worst teams in the NFL. The Carolina Panthers scored a late touchdown in the fourth quarter to beat New Orleans 23 to 22. Coach Dennis Allen was hoping the return of starting quarterback Derek Carr would propel the Black and Gold to a much-needed win.

Carr threw for 236 yards in his return from an oblique injury, but lost his best receiver in the first quarter as Chris Olave suffered another concussion after taking a big hit over the middle of the field trying to catch a pass from Carr.

Former Saints receiver Michael Thomas went on the social media site “X” and blasted Carr for the pass. After the game, Carr said the tweets were unfortunate and he wishes Thomas the best.

ULM could not hang on to a three-point lead in the fourth quarter and lost to Marshall 28 to 23. After starting 5-and-1, the Warhawks now have a two-game losing streak. Coach Bryant Vincent expects his team to keep grinding…

In other action on Saturday….Southeastern Louisiana rallied to beat Lamar 30 to 27 in overtime, Stephen F Austin defeated Nicholls 28 to 12, McNeese ended a three-game losing streak with a 31-3 win over A-and-M Commerce.

Southern scored a late touchdown to beat Alabama A-and-M 25 to 20 and Grambling fell to Bethune Cookman 24-to-21.

Last night in the NBA…Atlanta Hawks dribbled past the Pelicans 126 to 111.

Edwards said there will be at least one bit of good news for Democrats coming out of Louisiana in this election.

Opinion polls show that no federal race in Louisiana is competitive. Donald Trump is almost guaranteed to carry the state, and as Governor Edwards just alluded to, Democrats are a near lock to flip the redrawn Sixth Congressional District. The state’s five other House seats are almost certain to remain with their current political parties.

Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge is conducting The Sweet Study involving the medication, Ozempic. It’s designed to help women at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Scientific Research Director, Dr. Elizabeth Sutton, says most people don’t know they’re at risk for developing diabetes and women who have experienced gestational diabetes are at much greater risk…

Women who meet the study’s criteria and complete it will earn $1000 for their participation. Sutton says most people are unaware they have prediabetes, which is one of the qualifying conditions, but the study offers free screening tests for it. Sutton describes the rest of the criteria…

Half the participants receive Ozempic during the study, and the other half get a placebo. It includes women from all over Louisiana. Those who pass a phone screening will visit Woman’s in Baton Rouge for in-person screening tests. A 48-year-old Texas man was arrested Friday in connection with an attempted armed robbery of a Capitol One Bank. Abbeville Police say  it all began yesterday morning just before ten when they were notified of a bomb threat at the Capitol One on Highwy 14 by-pass where a man was trying to withdraw a large amount of cash. Kevin Gran Abbott was arrested a short time later.  He’s charged with attempted armed robbery.
