Gas prices continue to drop to numbers we haven’t seen in a little less than half a decade. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular in Louisiana is $2.76. Senior Petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan says they predict the price per gallon will drop another 5-10 cents before Turkey Day…:

DeHaan says autumn prices typically drop because of the decrease in demand and cost savings associated with the cheaper winter-blend gasoline.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office says a man from Houma is under arrest for allegedly beating up his 82-year-old step father. They say cops arrived to find the victim suffering from multiple injuries. Investigators were told by the man that his step-son, 51-year-old Simon Fontenot, beat him with a chair and repeatedly kicked him in the face. Fontenot is charged with aggravated battery.

LSU lost its fourth straight game to Alabama and Coach Les Miles says this one left a bad taste in his mouth. Jeff Palermo has the story…:

A 44-year-old Colfax man is dead after a two vehicle crash over the weekend in Grant Parish. Louisiana State Police say a pickup truck attempted to make a left hand turn when it collided with a motorcycle driven by Angel Muro. Muro, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead. The driver of the pickup, 31-year-old Jason Daniels of Lafayette, was charged with failure to yield. The investigation is ongoing.

Baton Rouge Police has arrested a man accused of raping a woman at gunpoint. Authorities say once 27-year-old Kenny Davis entered the woman’s apartment, he pulled a gun, demanded money, and then raped her. Davis is charged with aggravated rape, armed robbery, and other charges. Police say Davis met the woman after she posted an advertisement on the internet website, Backpage.

Louisiana State Police say a weekend crash has claimed the life of a Breaux Bridge man. They say 28-year-old Tyrone Celestine was riding his bicycle when he was struck from behind by a truck driven by 52-year-old Lawrence Sam of Breaux Bridge. Celestine was thrown from his bicycle and received serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died. Sam was given a chemical breath test and results showed he was over the legal limit. Sam was booked into the St. Martin Parish jail on careless operation, open alcoholic container, and vehicular homicide charges.

49er kicker Phil Dawson put a 35-yard field goal through the uprights in overtime as San Francisco edged the Saints 27-24 yesterday in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Saints Quarterback Drew Brees threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns, but threw two interceptions and lost a critical fumble in overtime. Coach Sean Payton says this is a disappointing loss…

With the loss, the Black & Gold fall to 4-5 on the season. The Saints will try to get back to .500 this Sunday as they host the Cincinnati Bengals, who are coming off a disappointing 24-3 loss to Cleveland.

Elsewhere in the NFC South, Atlanta kicker Matt Bryan connected on four field goals yesterday as the Falcons got past the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27-17. Carolina plays tonight as they travel to Philadelphia.

LSU’s overtime loss to Alabama on Saturday night is expected to sting for a long time. The Tigers were poised to beat the Crimson Tide, but victory slipped away as Alabama won in overtime 20-13. It wouldn’t be LSU and Alabama without some controversy. An unsportsmanlike penalty on LSU’s Vadal Alexander kept LSU from scoring a touchdown in the final minute of regulation. Instead they had to settle for a field goal and Coach Les Miles is not happy about the call…

Project Coordinator Helen McMillan says young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer are much different from older victims. A two year-old toddler is dead following a tragic mid-morning house fire in Baton Rouge yesterday. Firefighters found Marques Veals body was found in the kitchen of the wood frame house. Two adults were able to get out, while the boy’s grandfather tried unsuccessfully to rescue the little boy. That fire is under investigation.
