In arguments given today in Governor Bobby Jindal’s lawsuit against Common Core, an attorney from the Obama adminstration told a federal judge that the suit should be thrown out, since the curriculum was not forced by the feds to be accepted in the states. A ruling will be made in December.

In the 6th Congressional District runoff race, Democratic former governor Edwin Edwards may be in trouble. Pollster John Couvillion says a new survey reveals that Edwards support is around the 35 percent range…

JMC Analytics and Polling conducted this survey of likely voters.

In the 1950’s, it was estimated there were only 80 to about 120 Louisiana black bears in the state. Today, the numbers are much better, with most of the bears in the northeastern part of the state in the Tensas River Basin. The report also indicates the bears are on the move.

That’s LDWF biologist Maria Davidson, who says this report could result in the bears being removed from the endangered species list.

A robbery shooting in the overnight hours on Happiness Street in Lafayette has one man in the hospital, and police searching for the shooter today…

UL Lafayette has announced this Saturday’s football game against Appalachian State will kick-off at 1 PM. The start time has been moved up three hours, because of potential of severe weather late saturday afternoon and Saturday night. You can watch the game on ESPN 3.

Tonight is the regular season finale for Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana as the two teams battle for the River Bell Classic trophy. Southeastern Louisiana can earn a share of the Southland conference championship with a win. S-L-U is known for putting a lot of points on the board, but Colonels interim head coach Steve Axman says he’s just as impressed with the Lions defense…

Louisiana Tech leaves tomorrow for Norfolk, Virginia where they’ll play Old Dominion on Saturday. The Bulldogs are undefeated in league play and can clinch the west division in Conference USA with a victory. Kick-off is at noon and the game can be seen on Fox College sports.

Northwestern State, the last team to beat Louisiana Tech, is at Stephen F Austin. The Demons are still hopeful for an at-large spot in the F-C-S playoffs. So is McNeese State who hosts Lamar in a rivalry game. ULM is at New Mexico State and Tulane travels to East Carolina.

Grambling State first year head coach Broderick Fobbs is one of 20 finalists for the 2014 Eddie Robinson Award, which is presented to the top coach in the FCS. The Tigers are 7-1 in the SWAC.

ULM has announced they’ve raised five-point-five million dollars in the last eight months for its athletic programs. The Warhawks plan on building a new end zone facility, renovating the weight room inside Malone Stadium and the compleition of a hitting facility for the baseball team is in its final stages.

A North Louisiana I-20 crash last night has claimed the lives of five family members on their way to Walt Disney World. Six out of eight passengers were ejected from the vehicle when the sixteen year-old driver over-corrected and flipped after falling asleep at the wheel…

Lafayette Police are on the hunt for a suspect involved in a robbery shooting on Happiness Street. The alleged black suspect allegedly shot the 31 year-old victim at least three times, striking him once in the back and twice in his legs.

There’s new numbers out from JMC Analytics and polling for the 6th Congrssional District, and the news is not too good for former governor Edwin Edwards, even though there seems to be a lot of support for the well-seasoned Democrat…

That’s Pollster John Couvillion. He says, even though Republican Garrett Graves has agreed to debate Edwards, he thinks it will have little impact on the race.

That state’s tax amnesty plan is set to deliver $142 million dollars to the state, based on the current number of applications and settlements. Commissioner of Administration Kristy Nichols says, this is welcome news, since the state is facing some rather significant budget cutbacks this fiscal year, and some of that money will able to fill in the shortfall.

State Police say five family members, who were heading to Walt Disney World in Florida, were killed in a single vehicle accident on I-20 in Ouachita Parish last night. Three of the victims were juveniles. Trooper Michael Reichardt says a 16-year-old behind the wheel at the time of the accident…

He says six people were ejected from the vehicle and five were pronounced dead at the scene. The others were taken to area hospitals for treatment for their injuries. Reichardt says authorities were able to talk to the 16-year-old driver…

Reichardt says the 16-year-old is a licensed driver in his home state of Texas. He says, as far as they know, the driver was the only one wearing a seat belt. Reichardt says this is a real tragedy, especially being so close to the holiday season… (The deceased juvenile victims were four, seven, and fifteen years old.)

A new study from the US Geological Survey finds there’s less than a one-percent chance of the Louisiana black bear population becoming extinct in the next 100 years. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries biologist, Maria Davidson, says this report could result in the Louisiana Black Bear’s removal from the Endangered Species List

Davidson says they don’t have an exact number of how many Louisiana black bears are out there. She can say it’s relatively small, but healthy population…

The Lafayette Police Department says they are looking for the suspect involved in a shooting on Happiness Street. Corporal Paul Mouton says the 31-year-old male victim was approaching a residence around 12:30am this morning…:

A family of 8 from Texas headed to Disney World got into an accident on I-20 last night in Ouachita Parish and 5 of them died including a 4 year old, seven year old, 15 year old and two adults. State Police trooper Michael Reichardt says they were able to talk to the 16-year-old who was driving…:

A Baton Rouge woman is in big trouble after being indicted by a grand jury for allegedly stealing over $465,000 from her employer. Apparently 46-year-old Lori Fry was diverting more than 100 customer engineering payments to her personal bank account. She was indicted on nine counts of wire fraud.

With early voting for the December 6th election coming this weekend, the Edwards campaign says they plan to air his first television add in 22 years next week.

State Police report an extremely tragic accident out of Ouachita Parish last night which claimed the lives of 5 people, including young children, headed to Disney World for family vacation. They say the 16-year-old licensed driver from Texas likely fell asleep when the Tahoe crashed on I-20 and 6 out of the eight occupants, all unrestrained, were ejected. The children who died were 4, 7 and 15.

More trouble with Grambling. The faculty Senate says they have given a “no confidence” vote for their interim president Cynthia Warrick and they want her out. They say she’s made several questionable actions including hiring people at 6 figure salaries when Grambling has an almost 4 million dollar deficit.

Mouton says the suspect then shot the victim three times in the legs and back then ran down Happiness Street. The injured man is recovering in a hospital. The suspect remains at large.

The Louisiana Cannabis Industry Association has endorsed Republican Congressman Bill Cassidy over democratic incumbent Senator Mary Landrieu. Louisiana Cannabis spokesperson Jesse McCormick says in a debate last month Bill Cassidy said he supports the legal use of medical marijuana, while Landrieu opposes it…:

When asked if true freshman Brandon Harris will play a week from today against Texas A-and-M, LSU Coach Les Miles said he’s not ready to say. On his radio show, Miles says the quarterback that will play is the one that gives the team the best chance to win, but the difference between Harris and Anthony Jennings is becoming closer.

This Saturday U-L Lafayette looks for its seventh straight win as they host Appalachian State. Ragin Cajuns Quarterback Terrance Broadway is just 73 total yards away from passing Jake Delhomme for first place on the school’s total offense leaders list.

And tonight it’s the River Bell Classic as Nicholls State hosts Southeastern Louisiana in the regular season finale. S-L-U is eight-and-3 overall, while the Colonels are winless, but Lions Coach Ron Roberts says anything can happen in a rivalry game…

The Saints return to the practice field today as they get ready for Monday night’s match-up against the Baltimore Ravens. New Orleans has reportedly added Jalen Saunders to their roster. He’s a wide receiver and punt returner, a former fourth round pick of the Jets and was on Seattle’s practice squad when the Saints signed him. One other note, Quarterback Drew Brees has never defeated the Ravens in three previous meetings.

In the NBA, the Pelicans are off tonight. Through ten games this season, New Orleans is 6-and-4 and they’ll visit four and seven Denver tomorrow night.

Last night in the Association, former LSU Tiger Brandon Bass had 23 points as Boston beat Philadelphia 101-90. The 76ers are 0-and-11.

He says the three remaining passengers were severely injured in the crash. The deceased juvenile victims were four, seven, and fifteen.

Governor Bobby Jindal’s lawsuit against the federal government over Common Core will be heard in a Baton Rouge federal court today. Jindal claims the Obama administration over reached their authority in trying to implement the controversial education standards in Louisiana. Many education experts have said the lawsuit has very little chance of succeeding.

Grambling State’s faculty senate is calling for interim president Cynthia Warrick’s immediate dismissal. Jeff Palermo has the story…:

If you’re hitting the road for the Holidays, you won’t need to dig deep for gas money this year. The American Automobile Association says the price for a gallon of regular dropped another two cents last night to $2.67. That’s down 10 cents from just last week.
