With election qualifying behind us, all eyes are turned toward November 4th. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat sees several races destined for a runoff election in December. In the US Senate race, Pinsonat says the picture is pretty clear…

Pinsonat says beyond that, this race is really a toss up…

A state law requiring abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a local hospital goes into a effect next Monday, but the Center for Reproductive Rights has filed  lawsuit in federal court challenging the law. An attorney for the center, Julie Rikelman, says the courts have blocked similar laws around the country…

Rikelman says the law, which was passed by the legislature earlier this year, will close all five of the state’s five abortion clinics. She says one of their arguments against the law is that the state didn’t give abortion doctors enough time to obtain the prvileges

The Saints look like they are ready for the regular season based on their performance on Saturday night as they defeated the Colts 23-17. Quarterback Drew Brees, who has been nursing an oblique injury, appeared in his first preseason game and threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns…

Congressman Vance McAllister is back in for the 5th Congressional District seat in a field of 10 including Mangham physician Dr. Ralph Abraham. Dr. Abraham says he’s running for the 5th because it’s time to change the politics in Washington as right now Republicans and Democrats are so intent on destroying each other, that they are actually destroying this country…:

Retired air force colonel, Rob Maness, signed up at the Secretary of State’s office for the US Senate race. Polls show Maness as the underdog to Senator Mary Landrieu and fellow Republican Bill Cassidy but he had a lot of vocal support when he qualified Friday…:

Get ready for an extremely hot weekend — in fact it’s the hottest of the year so far for Louisiana according to State Climatologist Barry Keim. He says the humidity will also be high which drives the heat index up…:

5 people throughout the state have been arrested for their alleged involvement with an Asian Massage Parlor prostitution ring. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s office spokesman Matt Vezinot says the investigation began 10 months ago when they started sending undercover cops to the business…:

A state law requiring abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a local hospital goes into a effect next Monday, but the Center for Reproductive Rights yesterday filed lawsuit in federal court challenging the law. They say if the law is enforced starting September 1st, it’s not clear that any abortion doctor in Louisiana could legally provide those services. Similar laws have been blocked by the courts in other states.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s says 5 Louisiana residents are arrested for allegedly being involved in a prostitution operation being run out of Asian massage parlors. Spokesman Matt Vezinot says they got a tip that people were getting sex for cash at this location when the sting operation began…:

Vezinot says they made three arrests in Lake Charles and also had warrants for people in Lafayette and Bossier City who were connected to the crimes.

The Department of Health and Hospitals says Louisiana has confirmed 10 new cases of the West Nile Virus. They say the new illnesses reported Friday now bring this year’s West Nile total number to 52. DHH urges residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites.

A 41-year-old English teacher from a small private Christian school in Baton Rouge has been arrested for allegedly having sex with one of her 16-year-old male students on the campus of the school. Deputies indicate the boy’s parents found naked pictures and explicit messages on their son’s phone and when questioned he admitted they were from his teacher, Ashley Dowden. The teacher was arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish prison on counts including computer-aided solicitation of a juvenile and carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

This is Louisiana’s hottest weekend of the year. State Climatologist Barry Keim says there is a large ridge of high pressure setting up across the central United States which is limiting thunderstorm activity, and driving up the temperatures…:

The NFL has fined Saints Tight End Jimmy Graham $30,000 for his two celebratory goalpost dunks in last Friday night’s game against the Tennessee Titans. Graham was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct after each of his two touchdown receptions. The NFL put the rule in place during the offseason citing the possibility of game delays. Graham knocked the goalposts and crossbar out of alignment after one of his dunks last season and it took almost 30 minutes to correct. The Tight end said after the Titans game that he wasn’t going to dunk the goalpost anymore.

We should see Saints Quarterback Dree Brews back tonight as the Black and Gold take on the Indiaiapolisy Colts. The QB was injured from a strainged left oblique but he’s recovered in time to play in one of their most anticipated games of the preseason. He hasn’t been practicing much with the team. Kickoff tonight is at 7 on CBS.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe kicks off against Wake Forest at home on Thursday and prior to that game the school says Duck Commander CEO Willie Robertson will serve as the ceremonial guest for the coin toss. In addition to Robertson’s appearance, a Duck Dynasty episode will be filmed and fans at the game will likely en up making an appearance in that show.

The state trooper in South Carolina who arrested former LSU standout and current Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman Sam Montgomery at a traffic sopt last June has been fired. Montgomery was pulled over for speeding and the cop’s dashboard camera caught him threatening to taze the football player. Highway officials say the trooper’s comments to Montgomery during the arrest were inappropriate according to a release.

McNeese State completes preseason camp with a scrimmage this morning in Cowboy Stadium. It’s open to the public and free of charge. The Pokes first game is September sixth at 22nd ranked Nebraska.

The first in line to qualify Friday was 5th Congressional District Representative Vance McAllister. McAllister shrugged off the fact that Governor Jindal and the Louisiana GOP don’t support him. He says God has given him a second chance with his family and he hopes voters will continue to support him because he knows more about values now than every before…

A ten month investigation of a prostitute operation in Lake Charles–also in Lafayette and Bossier City–has led to the arrest of five people connected to the Asian Massage Parlor. An East Baton Rouge public school teacher who was accused of having sex with an underaged student has admitted to the crime. Earlier, 41 year-old Ashley Dowden denied the charges until yesterday, where she admitted to sending sexaully explicit pictures via texts and having carnal knowledge of a juvenile, who in this case was one of her high school students. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Dowden yesterday and booked her into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

The Saints left for Indianapolis today, where they’ll play the Colts tomorrow night in preseason action. Quarterback Drew Brees will see his first game action of the preseason as he’s finally recovered from an oblique injury. Brees says it’s important for him to play well as he might not play again until the regular season opener….

Defensive backs Champ Bailey and Jairus Byrd are also expected to play tomorrow night. Both veterans watched the first two preseason games from the sidelines. Byrd has shown in practice that he’s recovered from offseason back surgery, while Bailey has to prove to the coaches that he has another good season in him at the age of 36. Kick-off tomorrow night is at seven o’ clock.

Wisconsin Coach Gary Anderson had said that a decision on who will start at quarterback against LSU would not be announced until game day. But reports out of Wisconsin today say that redshirt junior Tanner McEvoy will get the start over the incumbent Joel Stave. McEvoy is six-foot-six and he’s transfer from Arizona Western College, where he threw for 19-hundred yards and 25 touchdowns. He also rushed for 414 yards and six TDS in 2013.

We’re waiting on a decision from Louisiana Tech head Coach Skip Holtz on who will be the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs. Cody Sokol and Ryan Higgins have been competing for that spot since the start of preseason camp. Holtz could make an announcement at seven o’ clock tonight.

The Louisiana law that requires doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals, has its first lawsuit filed against it. The Center for Reproductive Rights filed the lawsuit today in US District Court in Baton Rouge for two doctors, and clinics in Metairie and the Shreveport area. The group wants an immediate injunction against the law which is supposed to begin on September 1st.

A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier from Shreveport has pled guilty to stealing several dozen Netflix DVD’s and money. U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley says thirty-year-old Frankey Savannah was charged with one count of theft of mail matter, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $250 thousand dollar fine and restitution.
