The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s office says two people from Raceland are under arrest for allegedly abusing four children all under the age of 13. Spokesman Brennan Matherne says juvenile detectives were called to investigate a complaint regarding physical and sexual abuse of the kids…:

Matherne says detectives could visibly see bruising on the child’s body and learned 30-year-old Christopher Gaudet had allegedly punched the child…:(Matherne says Triche was booked with four counts of cruelty to juveniles with force and violence. Gaudet is charged with

Matherne says during questioning of all parties involved, detectives discovered a history of alleged physical abuse of four children by Gaudet and his 27-year-old girlfriend Brandy Triche. He says they learned Gaudet had also allegedly forced three of the children under the age of 13 to have sex with him: (No details released on victims.)

A slow moving weather system has flooded some roads and sandbags are needed in low-lying areas in south Louisiana. Kevin Davis, director of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, says three to five inches of rain in a short period of time is possible for locations in the southern half of the state.

Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says they have several roads flooded. High water has also been reported in East Baton Rouge, Lafayette and St. Martin Parishes. Davis advises residents to avoid areas where the roadway is flooded

Flash flood watches  are in effect through the evening and the National Weather Service forecasts indicate the threat of flooding could extend into the weekend. Davis urges everyone to attention to your local forecast in case of of additional advisories or warnings…

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office says they’ve arrested 13 people during an operation targeting prostitution. Lt. Tommy Carnline says their detectives became suspicious illegal sexual activity was taking place at local hotels when they came across internet advertisements that offered “massages,” “quality time” and “anything you want”…

Twelve people were arrested and charged with soliciting prostitution. Carnline says the individuals arrested are from various parts of the state, including suburban New Orleans.

Carnline says a 29-year-old woman from Bossier City was also arrested for prostitution during the sting operation. He says in one night, over 17-hundred dollars was paid and taken as evidence from those soliciting prostitution

A flash flood watch is in affect through this evening for many areas of south Louisiana, and the National Weather Service forecasts indicates the threat of flooding could go through the rest of the weekend. And you’re out driving, the advice is…:

That’s Kevin Davis, the Director of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security who adds several roads and low lying areas have already flooded with this slow moving weather system.

Republican Representative Jeff Thompson from Bossier City has announced he will be running for District Court Judge, Division B, in the 26th Judicial District that serves Bossier and Webster Parishes. Thompson is a 1988 graduate of Northeast Louisiana University, which is now ULM. He and his wife, and children live in Benton, Louisiana.

That’s LaFourche Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Brennan Mathern says abuse charges were also given to Gaudet’s 27 year-old girlfriend, Brandy Triche. Gaudet is also charged with three counts of aggrevated rape.

A former Fork Polk soldier who was charged with knowingly engaging in child sex on the base has been sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison. Thirty nine year-old Emil Roland Rath will also have five years of supervision, and will be required to registered as a sex offender.

A 54-year-old Church Point man is dead after being pinned under a vehicle after a jack malfunctioned. The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office says Paul Brent Bourgeois was removing the front tires on a vehicle when the jack gave way. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Houma teen is under arrest for allegedly stabbing his brother. The Houma Police Department says 17-year-old Dominique Moses and his older brother were having an argument when Moses armed himself with a knife and attacked his brother. Moses has been charged with attempted murder.

Louisiana’s unemployment rate rose for the second consecutive month in June. The state’s jobless rate is at 5-percent, up from 4.9-percent in May. However, the Bayou State’s unemployment rate remains below the national jobless rate of 6.1-percent.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office says the body of a 24-year-old man was found in a Metairie canal this morning. A witness reportedly told authorities he and the unidentified victim drank alcohol for several hours yesterday. When he left, he saw the victim go swimming from the canal bank. The witness returned to the canal and discovered the body. Foul play is not suspected, according to authorities.

A meeting between Governor Bobby Jindal and Education Superintendent John White does not produce an agreement on where to go from here when it comes to having a standardized test in place for the upcoming school year.  The dispute erupted when Jindal used executive authority to keep tests associated with Common Core out of Louisiana.  White says BESE leaders believe they have the legal authority to determine the type of standardized test students should take, but the Jindal administration has made it clear they should be involved in that process…

White says legal action may be needed to settle this impasse.

Much of the state is under a Flash Flood Watch through this afternoon as rains continue to sweep across the state.  National Weather Service forecasts show the threat of flooding could extend into the weekend.  There are several reports of street flooding throughout the state, as well as weather related power outages.

A small child was struck and killed by her father’s truck in Bossier City.  The tragic incident occured Thursday morning as 27-year-old Damion Dacaldacal was preparing to take his three children to daycare.  Bossier City Police Sgt. Brian Griffith says at some point Dacaldacal lost track of one of his children and as he was pulling out of the driveway, he struck his 14-month-old child.  The child was pronounced dead at a local hospital.  Griffith says this is a harshreminder for parents to always try to keep an eye on your children…

He says this case is being treated as an accident and no charges are expected to be filed.

SEC Media Days wrapped yesterday with the release of the All-SEC team, which was chosen by the media. LSU’s La’el Collins was a first team selection, while fellow Tigers, Vadal Alexander, Tre’ Davious White, Colby Delahoussaye and Terrence Magee were second team selections.

And the SEC announces they’ve reached a deal with Comcast to carry the SEC Network.

The Pelicans have reportedly reached an agreement with shooting guard Jimmer Fredette on a one-year deal. Fredette was the NCAA National Player of the Year in 2011 and the tenth overall pick in the NBA draft that season. Fredette has not been the scoring threat in the NBA as he was in college, but he made 49-percent of his three-point attempts with the Kings last season.

The Pels have also reportedly re-signed forward Darius Miller. The second round pick in the 2012 draft, averaged four points a game last season. He’ll compete for playing time at small forward this season.

In Summer League action, Charlotte Hornets stung the New Orleans Pelicans 104 to 75. The Pels rookie point guard Russ Smith, had 19 points, six assists and five rebounds. Courtney Fells also added 19 points. New Orleans final summer league game is tonight.

One other NBA note….former LSU Tiger Glen “Big Baby” Davis is returning to the Clippers on a one-year deal.

In college football news….the Ragin Cajuns and Tulsa have agreed to a home-and-home series. UL Lafayette will play in Tulsa in 2017 and the Golden Hurricanes will visit Cajun Field in 2019.

LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri has called for a Monday press conference. It’s expected Mainieri will introduce the Tigers new assistant coach. Andy Cannizaro, who played at Tulane. The 2015 schedule is also expected to be unveiled today.

The debate over what standardized tests public school students will take this upcoming school year is still not settled, despite a meeting between Governor Bobby Jindal and Education Superintendent John White.  Jeff Palermo reports…

The governor was also in Vacherie yesterday to announce that a China-based company is coming to the Mississippi River in St. James Parish.  He says it’s a methanol manufacturing facility that’s expected to create 350-400 permanent jobs.  They are set to begin construction in 2016.

Wet weather is expected over much of the state over the next couple of days.  Donald Jones, with the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, says this week’s rare cold front is moving out of the state and a low pressure system is moving in from Texas…

The Slidell Police Department has made an arrest in the strange case of a man who stole a company check to pay for a prostitute while at work.  Detective Daniel Seuzeneau says video surveillance caught the entire incident.  He says the cameras caught 24-year-old Charles West talking with a female customer and then the two went into a back room of the business where the woman performed oral sex on West.  Afterwards, West took a company check, forged the manager’s signature, and gave it to the woman.  Seuzeneau says Slidell Police were waiting for West when he arrived at work Wednesday morning…

Almost the entire state is currently under a Flash Flood Watch until 4pm this afternoon. The National Weather Service says heavy rainfall continues to push across Louisiana this morning and there’s potential for redevelopment of more storms throughout the watch area. NWS meteorologist Donald Jones says it looks like we’ll be dealing with some form of rain until tomorrow night…:

The system is also causing power outages throughout the state. Entergy says they have about 1000 customers out. Cleco says about 400 of their customers are in the dark. A couple hundred Demco customers also don’t have power.

The Acadia Parish man who died after being pinned under a vehicle as he was removing the rims he’d just purchased has been identified. They say 54-year-old Paul Bourgeois of Church Point died when the jack gave way as he was taking off tigers of the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An extremely tragic story out of Bossier City. A man apparently ran over his 14 month old daughter on accident as he was pulling out of the driveway according to police. Sgt. Brian Griffith says 28-year-old Damion Dacaldacal was looking for his kids to take them to daycare when he hit something with his truck — it was his one year old child. He says the father quickly called authorities…:

There are no charges expected to be filed in this case.

The dispute over tests associated with Common Core is not over even after Governor Bobby Jindal and Education Superintendent John White’s meeting yesterday. Jindal’s office released a statement after the meeting with White which said it’s important the department of education follows state law when it comes to acquiring testing services. White says legal action may be needed to settle this impasse…:

The Slidell Police Department says they’ve arrested a man who allegedly paid a woman for sexual services with a company at his workplace. They say 24-year-old Charles West was busted on camera talking with a female near closing time Monday night. Detective Daniel Seuzeneau says the two then went into a back room of the business…:

Then Mr. West is seen writing a check for $200, forging the signature and giving it to the woman. He was charged with theft, forgery, and solicitation of a prostitute. Police are searching for the woman.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s office says a LaPlace woman is under arrest for allegedly running an illegal dog rescue operation out of her home. They say 46-year-old Joyce Charles had 50 dogs taken from her home in May that were living in disgusting conditions and at that time she was told to stop operating rescue in her home. But investigators say she didn’t listen and kept taking in animals. She was arrested this week after Animal Control issued a search warrant and found 10 more dogs in her residence. She is booked with cruelty to animals and improper zoning use.

If you’ve played the Lottery recently and you forgot to check your tickets, you might think of nailing them down. The Louisiana Lottery says there are two Powerball tickets out there worth $10,000 that are set to expire next month. The prizes were won February 15th and one was purchased at Brothers Food Mart in Jefferson and Tallulah Truck Stop in Tallulah. The prizes need to be claimed by 5pm August 14th.
