The Louisiana Democratic Party announced its endorsement of Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo today as he seeks to represent Louisiana’s Fifth Congressional district. Mayo has served as Monroe’s mayor the last 13 years. He is the only democrat in the ten person field. Mayo ran in last year’s special election and finished third in the primary.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s office says a man is in jail for allegedly shooting his brother over a debt. Spokeswoman Cindy Chadwick says detectives believe that 24-year-old Cardarrio Watson shot his brother, 28-year-old LaMichael Watson, in the stomach. She says they found that the two got into this altercation over an extremely small amount of money…

The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people accused of burglarizing an evacuated home in Bell Rose near the sinkhole. The owner of the home told deputies several items were taken including air conditioners and lawn benches. 40-year-old Billy Rodrigue and 34-year-old Nicole Gros, both of Pierre Part, were booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center.

In the suit, Jindal accuses the US Department of Education of illegally using federal money to convince states to adopt the controversial education standards. Dock prices for shrimp are rapidly dropping and shrimpers aren’t happy about it so they’ve decided to hang up their nets this week. Disease had been killing many Asian farm-raised shrimp which raised the prices for American shrimpers, but that problem is going away so the price is dropping according to processors. Erin Brockovich is sending her chief environmental investigator to St. John Parish today to conduct a Town Hall meeting about Safe Drinking Water, chlorine Burnouts and the deadly amoeba situation in the parish water supply. She says on her Facebook page the meeting with Bob Bowcock will be before the Parish Council. According to her website, Brockovich is currently involved in water issues across the country.

A federal grand jury in Alexandria found a Las Vegas man guilty of kidnapping and murder of a 12-year-old girl. Thomas Sanders was declared dead two decades ago then resurfaced as a murder suspect in 2010 when the remains of 12-year-old Lexis Roberts were discovered in woods in Catahoula Parish. The case will now move to the penalty phase of the trial when the same jury will decide whether Sanders should be put to death or serve life in federal prison.

The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office says a man from Belle Rose is under arrest on domestic abuse charges for allegedly strangling a woman then trying to run her over with his car early Monday morning. He say 48-year-old Herman Knockum is booked with domestic abuse aggravated assault, domestic abuse batter and driving while under a suspended license.
