State Police say an on-duty St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot by a fellow deputy yesterday during a domestic dispute in LaPlace. Spokesperson Melissa Matey says when they arrived Lt. Nolan Anderson had fired several shots in the air, and then turned the gun on the officers. Matey says the cops were then forced to take action…:

State Police say two men are dead following a Wednesday morning accident in Lafourche parish involving and 18-wheeler and a dump truck. They say the victims are 38-year-old Murphy Callais Jr. of Cut Off and 62-year-old Lloyd Coleman of Thibodaux. Investigators believe Callais tried to pass a dump truck then hit the mac truck head on before being struck by the dump truck. Coleman was the driving of the 18-wheeler. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Sugar cane harvest season starts to ramp up with the beginning of grinding season today. American Sugar Cane League’s Jim Simon (SEE-moan) says weather conditions really affected Louisiana’s sugar cane beginning with the cold winter…:

State Police say a motorcyclist died after a two-vehicle accident occurred on I-49 south of Opelousas yesterday afternoon. They say 67-year-old Donald Royer was traveling south when a truck changed lanes in front of him. Investigators believe Royer couldn’t avoid hitting the back of the truck and was thrown from his bike. He later died at a hospital.

The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s office says a tree trimmer died after a limb struck the platform he was on and he fell over 40 feet to the ground. They say Calvin Lofton was working near Highway 10 in St. Francisville when the tragedy took place. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A grand jury indicted St. Bernard Parish president David Peralta on Wednesday for felony stalking. The case stems from Peralta’s bitter relationship with his ex-wife and sexual battery charges pending in St. Bernard. Bond is set at $35,000 and he is required to turn himself in by Monday.

Nolan Anderson during the standoff. They say Anderson fired several shots in the air and turned the weapon toward the deputies, who were forced to take action. Anderson was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A Federal Judge ordered today that businesses won’t have to pay BP back money the oil giant says was overpaid as a result of a flawed settlement money formula. Judge Carl Barbier had ordered the formula changed several weeks ago but as for money already paid, the ruling was a deal is a deal. Loyola University law professor Dane Ciolino says this is good news for the plaintiffs…

This afternoon in St. John the Baptist the Baptist Parish, an off-duty sheriff’s deputy has been shot in an incident involving another deputy. A New Orleans TV station says the shooting was the result of some kind of domestic dispute at a residence. The deputy who was shot has been taken to the trauma center at a New Orleans hospital.

State Police say they are investigating the death of a 14-year-old high school freshman who was allegedly shot by a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s deputy. The teen is identified as Cameron Tillman — a student from Ellender High School. Trooper Evan Harrell says deputies got the emergency call around 5:30 Tuesday evening…:

That investigation is still in the very early stages; as is the one going in LaPlace, as a St. John the Baptist off-duty sheriff’s deputy has been shot in an incident involving another St. John Parish deputy at a residence around 2 o’clock this afternoon. It is not clear whether or not the gunshot was self inflicted. The deputy who was shot has been taken to a New Orleans hospital in the Trauma Center. State Police is investigating that incident as well.
