Landrieu is Catholic and has said she believes women should have the right to make their own decisions over whether to terminate their pregnancy. Cross says for many voters, a candidate’s view on abortion helps them decide who to vote for….

According to the mayor’s office in Shreveport, Fire Chief Ronald Craig Mulford was fired Friday. Mulford has been on paid leave since being indicted in June on charges stemming from his handling of complaints against several firefighters under his command. Political analyst Elliot Stonecipher says there is a lot of cover up happening in this case but there are some things we know for sure…:

Assistant Chief James Thomas Carpenter was also dismissed today after an inquiry discovered that he also allegedly violated internal policies. One of the allegations against Mulford is that he knew for quite some time that a group of firefighters paid a woman to have sex with a disabled man while they watched. Stonecipher says Mulford is accused of not reporting criminal activity..:

Also Friday one of the firefighters pleaded guilty to hiring a prostitute and acting cruelly toward an intellectually disabled man. Stonecipher says the Mayor’s office should have taken action against the chief and others sooner…:

One of the firefighters has pleaded guilty to hiring a prostitute and acting cruelly toward an intellectually disabled man.

A Mississippi man convicted of murdering a 12-year-old girl and dumping her body in Catahoula Parish in 2010 was sentenced to death in federal court earlier today. A federal jury in Alexandria determined that 57-year-old Thomas Sanders should be put to death for the brutal kidnapping and murder of Lexis Roberts. Prosecutors say Sanders also killed the girl’s mother in Arizona in what they call a vacation that went terribly wrong.

Last year when the Saints played the Cowboys, New Orleans set an NFL record for first downs with 40 and a team record with 625 yards of total offense. The Saints won that game 49-17. NFL analyst Mike Detillier expects both teams to score a bunch of more points on Sunday night when they meet again in Dallas….

The Saints are 9-and-0 in Sunday night games, when Sean Payton is on the sidelines.

LSU is 23-and-1 under Coach Les Miles following a loss. The Tigers will make 24-and-1 on Saturday night when they host New Mexico State. the Aggies are 2-and-2 on the season and heavy underdogs in this game. But there quarterback Tyler Rogers has been getting better every week and wide receiver Teldrick Morgan has 31 catches on the season.

Louisiana Tech is at fifth ranked Auburn on Saturday. Neither team is happy with it how it performed in its last game. The Bulldogs were outscored 20-7 in the fourth quarter and lost to Northwestern State last Saturday. Auburn beat Kansas State in its last game, but only had 359 yards of total offense. That’s the fewest amount of yards Auburn has had in the 17 games that Gus Malzahn has been their head coach.

ULM faces Troy on Saturday night in a Sun Belt match-up. It’s the last game at home for the Warhawks until October 25th.

Southeastern Louisiana concludes a three-game road trip on Saturday as they face Incarnate Word in San Antonio. Also in the southland…Nicholls State seeks its first win of the year as its visits Central Arkansas. McNeese State hosts Arkansas Tech.

In the SWAC….Grambling State plays Prairie View in the State Fair Classic in Dallas. Grambling is coming off an emotional win over Jackson State. Southern faces Alcorn State. Both teams are 1-and-0 in the league.

Louisiana State Police have arrested a Florida man after a large quantity of drugs were found in his car during a traffic stop on I-12 near Hammond. Troopers say a search of 41-year-old Alexander Pesante of Orlando’s vehicle found more than 14 pounds of cocaine and over a pound of marijuana. He was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.

Governor Bobby Jindal is spending yet another weekend visiting key presidential campaign states, New Hampshire and Iowa. Jindal is still considering a presidential bid in 2016 and LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says, given the governor’s activity, it’s hard not to think he’s heavily leaning toward running…

Leesville may be the next city in Louisiana to consider allowing the sale of alcohol on Sunday. Officials say they want to do extensive research first but bar owners are calling on the City Council to change the ordinance banning alcohol sales there between 2am Sunday and 8am Monday because it’s hurting their business.

State Police say a 63-year-old woman from Rayville died when she ran a stop sign and hit an 18-wheeler head on near Oak Ridge. They say Shirley Nobles was not wearing a seatbelt when she turned into the path of the mac truck Thursday and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Louisiana State Police say excessive speed was likely a factor in a fatal motorcycle crash yesterday evening near Maurepas. They say the victim, 35-year-old Irvin Lachney, wrecked on La 22 east of LA 16 around 6:45pm. Investigators believe Lachney was speeding and lost control in a curve when he hit an embankment and was thrown from the bike. He died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales.

Flu season is right around the corner and that means it’s time for your flu shot. Bill Schaffner with the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases says everyone older than six months of age should be getting a vaccination because there is no excuse not to do it:

The Saints go after their second straight win on Sunday night when they visit the Dallas Cowboys. NFL Analyst Mike Detillier says for the Black and Gold to come away with a win, they have to slow down Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray and the Saints have to establish their running game…:

He says the Saints are 9-and-0 in Sunday night games, when Coach Sean Payton is on the sidelines. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 pm at AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas and will be on NBC.

In other Black and Gold news, Former New Orleans Sints running back Fred McAfee was named to the 2015 Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Thursday. He formerly played at Mississippi College.

Your Louisiana College football games this weekend…LSU hosts New Mexico State and it looks like he plans to start quarterback Anthony Jennings again. Miles did say that QB Brandon Harris has earned more playing time.

ULM has a Sun Belt match-up with Troy on Saturday. The Warhawks are a 13-and-a-half point favorite in the game. Kickoff is 6pm tomorrow.

Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State begin Southland play this Saturday. The colonels are at Central Arkansas in a game that will be shown on Southland TV. The Lions are at Incarnate Word. McNeese State is back in action after a week off. They host Arkansas Tech in a non-conference match-up.

You’ll be able to watch the Louisiana Tech/Auburn matchup tomorrow on the SEC Network. That game kicks off at 3pm.
