The New Orleans Police Department says they’ve arrested a pastor who shot an alleged attempted burglary suspect Wednesday night in Algiers. 62-year-old William Littleton now faces one count of aggravated battery by shooting. Cops say he shot a man in the head as he was trying to steal copper from the Greater Morning Star Baptist Church.

The South Plaquemines High School student who was suspended because of his religiously mandated hairstyle, has been allowed to return to class. ACLU-LA Executive Director Marjorie Esman says the school has allowed the student to attend class with his dreadlocks pinned up. She says other issues related to the suspension are still being worked out, like the school’s responsibility to help the student catch up with missed schoolwork…:

She says it’s unfortunate that there doesn’t seem to be enough recognition of the rights of members of minority faiths.

State Police say a 74-year-old woman was killed in a Union Parish crash Thursday afternoon on LA Highway 33. Patrica Holloway of Downsville lost control of her vehicle drove off the road and struck a tree. The woman died later at a hospital in Shreveport.

Drew Brees and wife Brittany have named their baby girl Rylen Judith Brees. The name was announced publicly Thursday during the CST broadcast of the Saints’ final preseason game. Baby Rylen has three older brothers: Baylen, Callen and Bowen.

Tomorrow is LSU’s first game of the season so it’s crunch time for Tiger Fans to get geared up in their purple and gold! Jennifer Feduccia is the owner of a LSU fan shop called Holiday Hallmark in Baton Rouge. She says they’ve seen a huge influx in LSU women’s apparel that is flying off the shelves…:

Two Louisiana teams begin the college football season tomorrow against Top 25 opponents. The 13th ranked Tigers will face 14th ranked Wisconsin at a neutral site in Houston. LSU Coach Les Miles says the plan is to play two quarterbacks, Brandon Harris and Anthony Jennings, but that could change depending how the game goes:

Louisiana Tech is also facing a Top 25 team as the Bulldogs will visit third ranked Oklahoma tomorrow night. And a big crowd is expected at the newly refurbished Cajun field for Saturday night’s game between UL Lafayette and the Southern Jaguars.

Last night ULM got a nice victory. The Warhawks beat Wake Forest 17-10 at JPS Field in Malone Stadium. ULM trailed at the half 10-0 before rallying for 17 unanswered points on Wake Forest in Monroe. The Warhawks next host Idaho on September 6th.

The defending the Southland Conference champion Southeastern Louisiana Lions kickoff the 2014 season by hosting Jacksonville on Saturday night in Strawberry Stadium. The Lions are coming off an 11-and-3 season and their first playoff appearance on the F-C-S level. Coach Ron Roberts to get back to the playoffs they need to start the year with a victory:

The Saints lost their final preseason game last night to the Ravens by a score of 22-13. Quarterback Drew Brees did not play but backup Luke McCown completed all four of his passes. The Black and Gold begin the regular season next Sunday in Atlanta.

He thinks the knowledge gained after Hurricane Katrina will benefit Louisiana for years to come.

A federal judge is expected to rule Friday on a new law that critics of the legislation say will force Louisiana’s five abortion clinics to close. The law in question was passed by the state legislature earlier this year and it goes into effect Monday. It requires doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. The Center for Reproductive Rights filed the court challenge last week, claiming not enough time was given for doctors to get responses from hospitals.

Louisiana State Police says a Delcambre (dell-come) woman succumbed to her injuries after a single vehicle crash this week evening in Iberia Parish. They say 41-year-old Amy Noel lost control of her car on La 14 and crashed into a culvert on the drivers side of the vehicle. She was airlifted to a hospital and LSP was notified yesterday that she passed away.

Davis was President of St. Tammany Parish when Katrina hit.  He says he feels the people of Louisiana have learned quite a bit about hurricane preparedness as a result of Katrina.  Davis is very confident on the local and statewide level that officials are prepared for any type of disaster…

Davis says recovery after a storm is always difficult because every community is different.  But he thinks the knowledge gained after Hurricane Katrina will benefit Louisiana for years to come…

The family of a 22-year-old New Iberia man who sustained a fatal gunshot wound while in police custody is asking the US Justice Department to investigate the circumstances of his death. The Iberia Parish coroner has ruled Victor White III’s death to be a suicide. But Monroe lawyer Carol Powell-Lexing wonders how White could shoot himself while he’s handcuffed…

An investigation is underway into a fatal shooting involving a Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputy. Ard says despite repeated demands, Leblanc refused to drop his weapon and eventually pointed his gun at the officers…

Four arrests have been made in connection with the shooting death of a Minden man, which authorities believe happened Sunday night. Eighteen year-old Omar Lott was shot several times and killed, as he was allegedly attempting to rob suspected drug dealer Murphy Lee Robinson of money and drugs. It’s the first homicide of the year in Webster Parish.

Tulane will play its first ever game in the American Athletic Conference as the Green Wave is at Tulsa. Northwestern State opens the season at home tonight against Missouri State. The Demons won last year’s match-up with the Bears 23-17.

The Saints wil close out the preseason tonight by hosting the Baltimore Ravens at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The starters are expected to play only a few plays, if at all. Several position battles will continue to unfold tonight especially at back-up quarterback, reserve wide receiver and kicker.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell admitted today that he didn’t get right when he suspended Ravens running back Ray Rice for two games after he allegedly struck a woman who he later married inside a casino elevator. Goodell says the Personal Conduct Policy has been changed and now a player will be subject to a six game suspension for a first offense domestic violence situation. A second offense will result in a one-year suspension.

The son of former LSU Coach Gerry Dinardo has been arrested in Baton Rouge. Michael Dinardo is a 21-year-old student at LSU and an arrest affidavit says several plastic bags of weed and two firearms were found at his residence.
