Deputies with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office need the public’s help in locating a vehicle that hit and killed a man in Albany over the weekend. They say they found 27-year-old Cleveland Mareal Barnes, Jr. of Tickfaw, La. in the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies believe Barnes was run over by a vehicle that left the scene. Officials say there is no description of a vehicle or a suspect. Please contact authorities if you have information on this incident.

A group which leans Democrat has asked for an investigation into a $100,000 alleged transfer of funds from US Senator David Vitter’s federal campaign account to a PAC which supports his candidacy for governor. The American Democracy Legal Fund announced the complaint is filed with the Louisiana ethics board.

The Louisiana Sports Writers Association has named Northwestern State Quarterback Zach Adkins the offisive player of the week. He had 19 straight completions in a win over Southern last weekend. The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Bethany couple after they delayed seeking medical treatment for a toddler with a head injury. Spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says detectives responded to a call from a local hospital and found a 15-month-old girl suffering from severe bruising and swelling of her head…:

She says 27-year old Jeffrey Noble and 26-year-old Stephanie File-Malone were charged with cruelty to a juvenile because they didn’t seek medical attention for about 48 hours.

A hearing is scheduled today where a judge is expected to rule whether or not to issue an injunction against the enforcement of the last-minute retirement raise that legislators gave state police superintendent Mike Edmonson and another trooper. Baton Rouge Senator Dan Claitor filed a lawsuit challenging the change saying the process lawmakers used violates the constitution.

Police in Tallulah say they are investigating an accidental shooting death of a child. Reports indicate a 3-year-old boy fired a gun striking himself. The Madison Parish Sheriff’s office is assisting in the investigation. More on this as it develops.

According to State Farm, the number of vehicle-deer collisions are on the rise in Louisiana. Spokesman Gary Stephenson says there was a nearly six-percent increase in these accidents in the state…

Stephenson says there were over 9,700 vehicle-deer collisions in the Bayou State last year. He says the number of collisions is actually higher because many of these collisions are not reported, uninsured motorist collisons are not included, and drivers with only liability coverage were not counted. Stephenson says there’s a fair amount of expense involved, too. He says the previous year’s average claim was around $3,400…

State Farm calculated the chances of any single motorist in Louisiana striking a deer at 1 in every 299 drivers, below the national average of 1 in 169. Stephenson says the last few months of the year is the the most active time for vehicle-deer collisions…

But the DHH Office Public Health Medical Director Takiesha Davis says the main reason the amoeba is being discovered more often is because they are looking for it now…

When the Saints play the Minnesota Vikings in the dome Sunday, there will be a recognizable name on the playing field. Less than a week after he was charged with child abuse, star running back Adrian Peterson is cleared to play. A Chevron natural gas pipeline accident has killed one contract worker and injured two others while performing maintanance work on Saturday. The Department of Environmental Quality report that the incident happened offshore in southeast Louisiana, and that the gas flow inside the line has been shut-off pending an investigation and repair work.

ESPN is reporting running back Mark Ingram hurt his hand in yesterday’s 26-24 loss against Cleveland. When asked about it today, Coach Sean Payton said he nothing to report now on the injury. Ingram rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown against the Browns.

New Orleans will look for win number one on the season this Sunday against Minnesota. The Vikings said today that running back Adrian Peterson will play. Peterson sat out Minnesota’s loss to New England yesterday after he was charged with child abuse. Peterson released a statement today saying that without a doubt, he’s not a child abuser. Peterson admits to injuring his child, but that was not his intention when he disciplined his son.

In the latest AP Top 25 poll, the LSU Tigers are ranked eighth. Florida State is number one, followed by Alabama at three, Auburn at five and Texas A-and-M at six.

LSU’s offense got off to a slow start on Saturday in the Tigers 31-to-0 win over over ULM, but still ended up rushing for 219 yards. Sophomore wide receiver Travin Dural caught six passes, but the former Breaux Bridge standout says the offense has a long way to go…
