Tough news for us in a new nation wide review of roads. According to the 21st Annual Highway Report by the Reason Foundation, Louisiana’s highway conditions dropped to 40th in the nation and only California and Hawaii were rated worse than us in the urban interstate pavement category.

The DA in DeSoto Parish is expected to dismiss criminal charges against the Yogi and Friends Exotic Cat Sanctuary in Frierson this morning. LDWF was trying to secure a court order to physically remove 9 exotic cats at the location citing safety concerns. But Yogie and Friends Executive Director Jenny Senier says they have tried extremely hard to comply:

LDWF still has the cats seized on paper only and say it’s up to their lawyers on how next to proceed.

Drew Brees chimed in on the Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson domestic abuse cases. The Saints Quarterback is considered one of the faces of the NFL and says with the league dealing with all these PR hits, he understands it’s more important than ever to represent properly on and off the field…:

The NFL’s image is suffering because of the Ray Rice domestic abuse case and now Vikings star Adrian Peterson is facing child abuse charges. Saints Quarterback Drew Brees says unfortunately the perception is NFL players beat their wives and children but that’s only a handful of cases in a league that has 17-hundred players..:

Brees says the Rice and Peterson cases provide examples for other players that there are consequences for poor decisions away from the field.

Coach Sean Payton confirmed Wednesday that Mark Ingram had surgery and will not play in the Vikings game on Sunday. He said Ingram fractured his hand in the Browns game and his right thumb was displaced. Payton says the running back will be week to week in terms of status.

The Southeastern Conference announced Wednesday 10 more LSU men’s basketball games for the upcoming season that will be televised. Adding to other games announced in August, networks also decided to pick up some SEC games including Vanderbilt on January 24th, Mississippi State on January 31, and Tennessee on February 14th.

McNeese State’s 2015 basketball schedule was announced Wednesday. They’ll be at UL-Lafayette February 24th and LSU on March 11th.

In National College football news, Florida State says Heisman trophy winner Jameis Winston won’t play in the first half of the Clemson game this weekend for apparently making vulgar comments on top of a table at the school’s cafeteria. They say the quarterback will also undergo internal discipline.

Also Texas Quarterback David Ash’s career is over according to coach Charlie Strong. The QB has been dealing with multiple concussions and missed most of last season.

Fleming says he feels we are going down the wrong path in dealing with the militant group…:

The authorization passed on a 273-156 vote that crossed party lines.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s office says a man from Utah is under arrest for terrorizing after he allegedly called in a bomb threat to a plant in Geismar on September 11th. They say this week the call was eventually traced to 34-year-old Terry Randal Cox II of Roy Utah. The man reportedly worked as a contractor with the same company, PCS Nitrogen, at the time of the incident in which 540 employees had to be evacuated.

It’s a question many new parents deal with, should your children sleep in your bed? Jennifer Kelley, who is a pediatrics instructor at the LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, says an estimated 45-percent of families co-sleep. She says proponents claim it encourages breastfeeding and babies seem to sleep better, but she says it’s also dangerous…:

The Louisiana Lottery says a man from Haughton claimed a $1 million dollar Powerball prize from the drawing which was held on September 10th. They say 44-year-old Louis Sims Jr’s ticket hit all five white balls but did not make the red Powerball.

Senier says they’ve spent $10,000 since July working to upgrade the facility. She says since they’ve been operating in 2000 they have not had any problems that would create public safety concerns. LFEA President Will French hopes the results of this study will show what the program actually costs the state…

The state commissions an analysis of the film tax credits every two years and their most recent study shows it costs the state about $4.35 for every dollars’ worth of credits collected. French says Louisiana Economic Development projects economic benefits by merely plugging in spending numbers. He says the state’s analysis doesn’t take into account tourism dollars the film industry brings in, among other factors…

The group will launch a Kickstarter campaign later this month to help with the cost of the study. French says their study will look at every component that could be providing an economic benefit to the state because of the industry and try to account for what that benefit likely is…

A federal report says Louisiana’s prison population fell two-percent last year, but the state still has the highest incarceration rate in the nation. Doctor Peter Scharf, with the Justice and Public Health Institute at the LSU Health Science Center, says the mindset on how to punish criminals is changing and that should help lower the prison population…

State Police say a McComb, Mississippi man is dead after a head-on collision in East Feliciana Parish involving a garbage truck. Trooper Jared Sandifer says the accident happened around 6 o’clock this morning. He says 23-year-old Cody Temple was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene…

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will not play this Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. Peterson was placed on the NFL’s exempt list, which will keep him from participating in team activities until his child abuse case is resolved. Minnesota team officials began the week by saying that Peterson will play against the Saints.

Carolina has also placed star defensive end Greg Hardy on the NFL’s commissioner exempt list until his domestic violence case is resolved. The 2013 Pro Bowler was found guilty in July for assaulting and threatening his ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder. Hardy is appealing the verdit and a hearing date is set for November 17th. The Saints face the Panthers on October 30th and December seventh.

At the Saints training facility, coach Sean Payton said today that running back Mark Ingram underwent surgery this week to repair a fracture in his hand. Doctors inserted two screws above Ingram’s thumb, because the bone was fractured and displaced.

It’s LSU and Mississippi State this Saturday in Tiger Stadium. It will be the SEC opener for both teams. The Bulldogs are averaging nearly 44 points a game and Tigers defensive coordinator John Chavis says his defense will be tested…

A south Mississippi man was killed in an early morning head-on collision with a garbage truck just south of Clinton in East Feliciana Parish. Twenty-three year-old Cody Temple was prounced dead at the scene, and Trooper Jared Sandifer says they are investigating several factors in the crash…

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Louisiana’s prison population in 2013 was at 39-thousand, a drop of nearly nine-hundred people from 2012. Scharf anticipates the state’s incarceration rate will continue to decline, but it will take time to get it at more acceptable level…

Scharf says the department of corrections has put programs in place to help recently released inmates stay out of jail and there’s been a push to lower sentences for certain crimes. He says the mindset on how to punish criminals is changing and that should help lower the prison population…

Louisiana State Police say a man from Mississippi is dead after a head-on collision this morning involving a garbage truck. Spokesman Jared Sandifer says 23-year-old Cody Temple of McComb was traveling in East Feliciana Parish south of Clinton around 6am:

Sandifer says sadly Temple was not buckled up and was pronounced dead at the scene. He says the other driver is going to be okay…:
