A U.S. Postal Service employee is under arrest in North Louisiana for stealing marijuana from packages he was supposed to deliver. Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Bobby Herring says 31 year-old Russell Leon Ellis would allegedly poke holes in packages from the states that have legalized marijuana…

According to the latest census data, the Louisiana payscale by gender gap is still very wide. In fact it leads the nation with men making an average of 33 percent more than women. Tulane Business Professor Mark Rosa says, culturally, many women with high degrees are choosing to stay home and raise their family, which affects the numbers…

In Jonesville, the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office is reporting the arrest of seven adults on several charges; all of them in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of one teenage victim. Several of those arreste have already confessed, and Sheriff James Kelly says he expects more arrests to be made.

Chaisson says the public should be aware that this is happening in their area and to reduce the chances of mosquito bites as much as possible by using spray that contains DEET and not leaving standing water in your yard. He says this is prime time bite season…:

CPSO spokesman Bobby Herring says they got an anonymous tip that 31-year-old Russell Leon Ellis of Shreveport was stealing the mail he thought contained pot…:

Herring says initially Ellis was charged with possession of schedule I marijuana. He says narcotics agents moved in on the mailman as he was removing the drugs from the postal packages…: (Herring says the United States Postal Service Office of the Inspector General also investigated this case and Ellis could face federal charges.)

Herring says they were able to obtain a search warrant for the suspect’s home and there they found an additional 618 grams of suspected marijuana with a street value of $6100, 25 weapons and $15,000 in cash. He says the suspect was targeting packages being sent from states that have legalized marijuana…:

A spokesperson for the state department of transportation says Louisiana has spent six-point-four billion dollars since 2008 in highway improvements. But Hartgen says their ranking also takes into account highway safety and Louisiana does not fare well in that category

According to new Census data, Louisiana has the nation’s largest gender pay gap. Figures from 2013 show that Louisiana women are paid about two-thirds of what men are paid. Men’s average pay in Louisiana ranked in the top half nationally, while pay for women ranked 44th among all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s office has arrested a man they believe is responsible for the death of a woman who was a bystander in a gun fight. 43-year-old Antonio Cummings surrendered to authorities today and was booked on one count of second degree murder. 47-year-old Bobby Ann Turner died last night after being shot when Cummings allegedly opened fire during an argument with another man.

In other college football action this weekend…Grambling State is at Jackson State. These two teams never played last season, because the players at Grambling refused to play, because of poor training conditions and they were upset with the leadership at Grambling.

Louisiana Tech will host Northwestern State on Saturday. The Bulldogs have been excellent in the red zone as they’ve scored every time they’ve moved the football inside the opponents 20-yard line.

And the Ragin Cajuns are at Boise State. It’s the first meeting between the two schools. The Broncos will return the trip back to Lafayette in 2016.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s office is talking to a woman over an incident where she allegedly shot her parents. They say 27-year-old Jamie Kristen Fontenot was discovered sitting on her porch in Washington bearing a firearm last night. The dad is in critical condition and the female victim was treated and released. Detectives say charges are pending and more information will be released later.

A TV station in New Orleans says Jefferson Parish President John Young indicated a federal health official has told him a critically ill patient taken from a freighter docked in Belle Chasse has malaria. Officials from the US Centers for Disease Control were looking into the matter because the ship had been docked in Western Africa. But unlike Ebola, the mosquito-borne malaria does not spread person-to-person.
