A legal analyst says former LSU football player La’el Collins is making the right decision in not rushing to speak to cops about a murder of a pregnant woman. Eric Gill reports…:

The situation raised enough concern among teams that Collins was not selected in last night’s first round of the NFL Draft.

The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s office issued a release indicating they’ve fired a deputy who was arrested yesterday afternoon. Shreveport Police is handling the case of now former Deputy Larry Harrell of Haughton who is charged with solicitation of prostitution.

The Senate Education committee approves a bill that would prohibit the suspension or expulsion of a student between Kindergarten and third grade, unless the child posed a threat to the safety of the school. But Debra Schum, Executive Director of the Louisiana Association of Principals, says they can’t allow a single student to disrupt the education of others…:

A former Thibodaux High School teacher has been sentenced to a year of probation after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor counts of prohibited sexual contact between an educator and a student. 25-year-old Celeste Bergeron of Thibodaux was accused of having sex with a student who was 17-years-old at the time. She will not be required to register as a sex offender since she pleaded guilty to misdemeanors.

Robert Nelson, the man accused of killing West Monroe Representative Frank Hoffmann’s 85-year-old sister, has been indicted on one count of first degree murder. Police believe Nelson was robbing the home of Shirley Cagle in a desperate attempt to support his drug habit, when the murder took place. Assistant DA Neal Johnson says the indictment for 1st degree murder carries the possibility of the death penalty…:

The Saints had two picks in last night’s first round. With the number 13 pick, the Black & Gold selected offensive lineman Andrus Peat from Stanford. Peat was an A.P. second team All-American selection last season, as well as an Outland Trophy finalist. The Saints also picked up inside line backer Stephone Anthony from Clemson. Anthony was a first team All-ACC selection last year.

Third baseman Conner Hale’s two run double in the top of the 14th gave top ranked LSU a 5-3 victory over Mississippi State. This is the Tigers seventh extra-inning game this season, and their fourth win in those contests. Jake Godfrey gets the win on the mound for LSU, his seventh of the season, while Trevor Fitts gets tagged with the loss for the Bulldogs. The win also marks the 400th career LSU victory for coach Paul Mainieri. These two teams will take the field again tonight at 7. It will be televised on ESPNU.

Elsewhere on the college diamond, Louisiana Tech hosts a three game series against Texas-San Antonio.

In the Southland Conference, UNO welcomes Abilene Christian, Nicholls State has a three-game home stand against Houston Baptist, Lamar is in Hammond to face Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin takes on McNeese State, and Northwestern State travels to South Bend, Indiana to meet Notre Dame.

In Sun Belt action, UL-Lafayette looks to extend its seven game winning streak when they take on Appalachian State and ULM hosts Troy.

Tonight is the first round of the NFL draft, but it’s unlikely that former LSU offensive tackle La’el Collins will hear his name. Collins is wanted by police for questioning to see what he knows about the murder of a pregnant woman last week. Baton Rouge Police Corporal Don Coppola says they’ve been told that they’ll get a chance to speak with Collins once the draft concludes…

Police have not named Collins a suspect in the woman’s death. But the situation has some NFL teams nervous about selecting Collins. There was a report earlier today that Collins’ agent was trying to get the offensive lineman in the supplemental draft, but that request was denied by the league, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

It’s been reported the Dallas Cowboys will not pick-up the option on cornerback Morris Claiborne. That means the former LSU star will enter the upcoming season in the final year of his rookie contract.

The Saints have two picks in tonight’s first round and nine picks total over the course of the seven-round draft that will last until Saturday. There’s a lot of talk from all of the teams about selecting players with high character. General Manager Mickey Loomis says they won’t write a player off, just because of a couple of red flags…

At 6:30, the number one ranked LSU baseball team begins a three-game series against Mississippi State in Starkville. The Bulldogs have struggled this season, as they are just 23-and-22 overall, 7-and-14 in the SEC. State has lost 10 of 12 and they are on the verge of missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.

A Houma domestic dispute this morning involving a woman and her ex-boyfriend, who was holding their holding his 5 year-old inside his home, has ended peacefully. Police were able to negotiate the safe release of the boy, and the unnamed suspect voluntarily surrendered to authorities around noon. He was transported him to the hospital to be evaluated.
