State Police arrest a Breaux Bridge man for his role in a two-vehicle accident in St. Martin Parish that claimed the life of a 56-year-old woman last week. Master Trooper Brooks David says a truck, driven by 30-year-old Emmanuel Wiltz, crossed the center line of LA 328 in the path of a car driven by Betty Borel…

He says Wiltz, who was suspected of being impaired at the time of the crash, received minor injuries as a result of the crash. David says Borel sustained what was believed to be moderate injuries and transported to a local hospital…

Several hours later, State Police were informed that Borel had succumbed to her injuries. David says Wiltz was originally charged with DWI, vehicular negligent injuring, and other charges. He says affter Borel’s death, authorities obtained an arrest warrant with upgraded charges… (Wiltz now also faces vehicular homicide and driving left of center charges.)

Alexandria Police say a man is behind bars for pulling the trigger in a fatal shooting that investigators are calling an accident. Lt. Brooks Fairbanks says 29-year-old Kendall Smith is charged with negligent homicide. He says they responded to a report of a shooting and located another 29-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound…:

They say the incident involved a female acquaintance who sustained injuries including blood coming out of her ear when her earring was apparently ripped out. Lt. Brian McGregor read the victim’s statement:

The 26-year-old linebacker told cops that the woman was a dancer he brought home for the night, but the victim claims she was Galette’s assistant who had been staying with him for about two years. Also arrested was Gallett’s cousin, 27-year-old Terrance Banks of Newark, New Jersey. McGregor said in the victim’s statement she claimed both suspects were on top of her and she could not breathe…:

The woman told cops the argument started over money for a cab. She claimed both men jumped her so she grabbed a knife. McGregor read the victim’s statement..:

It’s an election year in Louisiana and Angola Warden Burl Cain’s name has come up as a possible candidate for governor. Cain was in Baton Rouge today and says he’s still thinking about running for the highest elected position in the state…

Cain has served as the Warden of the Louisiana State Penitentiary since 1995. He says the idea of him running for governor came from people who have visited the prison. Cain says he’s a civil servant and he’ll have to resign, if he runs, so he doesn’t want to talk about the topic

Police say Galette is accused of pushing a woman to the ground at his home. Galette says the woman is a dancer, while the victim claims she lives with him, handling the cooking and cleaning. Police say the woman has injuries that include blood coming from her ear and scratches on her face.

Saints outside linebacker Junior Galette was arrested this morning by the Kenner Police Department and charged with simple battery domestic violence. Police say Galette is accused of pushing a woman to the ground at his home. Galette says the woman is a dancer, while the victim claims she lives with him, handling the cooking and cleaning. Galette had 10 sacks this past season and he signed a four-year, 41-million dollar contract prior to this season.

Former Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel that he will transfer to Louisiana Tech. It’s anticipated that Driskel will enroll in March, participate in spring football and be eligible to play next season. Driskel was one of the top quarterbacks in the country coming out of high school, but had a rough time at Florida.

There’s been conflicting reports about whether LSU defensive end Danielle Hunter will return for his senior season. A Baton Rouge TV station reports that Hunter will enter the NFL draft, but LSU disputes that report.

After missing 21 games with a shoulder injury, Pelicans guard Eric Gordon is expected to play tonight as New Orleans hosts Washington. Pelicans Guard Jrue Holiday says it’s a big boost to get Gordon back…

Gordon is averaging nearly 10 points a game. While Gordon is back, Tyreke Evans is questionable as he’s suffering from an illness.

The Alexandria Police Department says a man is under arrest on negligent homicide charges for allegedly accidentally shooting and killing someone. They believe 29-year-old Kendall Smith was playing with the weapon when it discharged and struck a 29-year-old male victim who is not being identified at this time. The incident remains under investigation.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s office says a man was fatally shot outside of the nightspot called Club Vibe. They say 34-year-old Kenneth Brown of Lafayette was found sitting inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. There is no motive or suspect at this time.

With a new Congress set to swear-in tomorrow that puts a wrap on Mary Landrieu’s last day as a U-S Senator. Landrieu has served Louisiana in the Senate the last 18 years and LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says she’ll be remembered for her work to bring federal resources to the Bayou State…:

A cold week is on tap for Louisiana as artic air makes it way into the Bayou State. Tim Humphrey, with the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, says high temps will only be in the 40s for north Louisiana today and 50s in south Louisiana and even more colder air will arrive Wednesday…:

He says this cold air mass is coming down from Canada and will be dry so precipitation is not likely.

It’s being reported that New Orleans Saints outside linebacker Junior Galette was arrested in Kenner today for an incident that is not being disclosed at this time. Cops say Galette was in custody but the arresting officer is being consulted before any other details are released.

The Department of Health and Hospitals is urging businesses to strengthen wellness at the office. Emelie Gunn has the story…:

A Shreveport man has been arrested in connection with a shooting last night that sent two men to the hospital. Shreveport Police say their investigation indicates 36-year-old Nicholas King approached the victims and fired several shots, striking them both. Both victims taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. King was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on charges of simple battery and illegal use of a weapon.

State Police say a three-vehicle accident in Terrebonne Parish has claimed the life of a Thibodaux man. They say the vehicle driven by 34-year-old Chad Labat, for unknown reasons, crossed the center line and struck another vehicle. The impact caused the vehicle driven by Labat to be split into three pieces. One of those pieces struck a third vehicle. Labat was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the other two vehicles were taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

The state department of health and hospitals is encouraging businesses to help employees live a healthy lifestyle by coming up with healthy programs and policies at the workplace. D-H-H Well-Ahead Director Melissa Martin says providing healthier snacks during meetings can actually provide a more productive workforce…

In college hoops over the weekend, it was Tulane over Memphis 74-66, Southern beat Prairie View 68-56, LSU defeated Savannah State 75-59, and UL-Lafayette crushed Troy 91-64.

At LSU, the search for a defensive coordinator continues. Among those considered serious contenders include LSU defensive line coach Brick Haley, Penn State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop, Alabama linebackers coach Kevin Steele, and former NFL defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast. Head coach Les Miles is expected to meet with his staff today and a hire is likely to be made by the end of the week.

You’ll see a few changes on the sidelines at ULM in the upcoming football season. Inside wide receivers coach Mario Price will start coaching the team’s running backs and take over the role of recruiting coordinator. Former ULM quarterback Cody Wells will return to the Warhawk sideline after one season as a graduate assistant at Jacksonville State University. Wells will serve as the new inside wide receivers coach.

UL-Lafayette head coach Mark Hudspeth announces that defensive line coach Tim Edwards and interim outside linebackers coach Matt Wallerstedt will not be returning to the program for the 2015 season.

Louisiana Tech defensive coordinator Manny Diaz is expected to interview for the same position at Mississippi State early this week.
