According to Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputies, one specific New Orleans auto-theft crime made direct contact with Mayor Mitch Landrieu, as a jeep registered to the mayor was reported stolen over the weekend. An off-duty officer was able to locate the vehicle in the Uptown section of New Orleans. They are still seeking the suspect.

State Police report a single-vehicle accident in St. Tammany Parish has left one dead and another injured. Authorities say 56-year-old Brian Chopin was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle in a curve and went off the road. The vehicle became airborne before hitting several trees. Chopin was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, 53-year-old Lori Chopin received moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital. The investigation is ongoing.

State Police say an Oak Grove man is dead after a single vehicle crash on I-20 in Richland Parish. They say 70-year-old Jerry Ratcliff was traveling west when, for unknown reasons, his truck traveled off the highway and struck a tree. Ratcliff, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police say a Port Barre man is dead after a single vehicle accident over the weekend. Authorities say 28-year-old Lance Lomas was riding an ATV on the westbound shoulder of US 190 in St. Landry Parish when he veered right and drove the vehicle into a ditch which caused the ATV to flip. Lomas was thrown from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Officials say impairment is a suspected factor in the crash.
