In a new federal budget, President Obama is proposing that offshore revenue sharing, which would provide Louisiana millions of dollars for coastal restoration, be replaced with a plan that would spread that money across the nation for various issues. Senator Bill Cassidy says it seems the president doesn’t care about the people affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita…:

The president’s proposal would strip Louisiana and other Gulf Coast states of revenue promised by the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act which is scheduled to go into effect in 2017.

The office of Governor Bobby Jindal says they’re in southwest Louisiana today. Jindal will be making an economic development announcement at the Development Alliance this afternoon in Lake Charles.

The Pelicans put an end to Atlanta’s 19-game winning streak last night by beating the Hawks 115 to 100. Anthony Davis led all players with 29 points and 13 rebounds. It was Atlanta’s first loss since December 26th. For New Orleans, its record improves to 26-and-22, one game back of Phoenix for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Pels host the Thunder tomorrrow night.

The LSU Tigers received a verbal commitment last night from four star Georgia defensive end Arden Key. He’s six-foot-five, 230 pounds and chose the Tigers after visiting LSU a couple of weeks ago.

ULM has received a verbal commitment from Delhi Charter Quarterback Frank Maxwell.

In NFL news, Saints offensive guard Jahri Evans reportedly had surgery on his wrist, but the procedure was classified as a minor and he’s expected to be available for organized team activities.

LSU shortstop Alex Bregman has been named to Baseball America’s preseason All-America first team. Bregman and the Tigers missed out on the College World Series last season, because they were upset by Houston in the Regionals. He says the team is very determined to get back to Omaha this year…

The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a first-grade teacher for allegedly striking a student . Witnesses reported seeing 31-year-old Chanel Lemelle of Bains Lower Elementary in St. Francisville, berate, kick, and slap a student. Sheriff’s spokesperson Erin Foster says they met with school board officials regarding teacher complaints about Lemelle…:

Lemelle is charged with cruelty to juveniles.

The Alexandria Police Department says a man and woman have been charged with 1st degree murder in the death of a 9 month old child. They say the baby died in March of last year and the case was brought before a grand jury this month who decided to indict the mother and stepfather for murder. Michelle Cotten and Bill Cotten, both 21 years old of Eunice, were booked today and are being held on a million dollars bond each.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services released the 2015 Louisiana Child Support Most Wanted poster. Looks like the upward trend in the gasoline price is officially hitting us this week. According to the American Automobile Association the current statewide average price for a gallon of regular is $1.90 which is up 2 cents from yesterday.

Governor Bobby Jindal’s numbers have slipped among Iowa Republican voters according to Bloomberg Politics and the Des Moines Register. When asked who their first choice would be for a presidential candidate, just two-percent said Jindal. But Pollster Ann Selzer says it’s too early to count Jindal out, but he does have a long road ahead of him…:

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office says a private healthcare company nurse, who serves the parish jail, is under arrest for conspiring to bring contraband into the facility. 26-year-old Tiffany Sonnier of Jeanerette admitted to the conspiracy to authorities. Sonnier is charged with introducing contraband into a penal institution and possession of Adderall. Officers found the narcotics in her possession during the booking process.

Authorities say a witness reported seeing 31-year-old Chanel Lemelle of Baton Rouge, a teacher at Bains Lower Elementary in St. Francisville, berate, kick, and slap a first-grade student. Lemelle surrendered to authorities and was booked on a count of cruelty to juveniles. Lemelle resigned from her position last week.

A new Des Moines Register and Bloomberg Politics poll shows only two percent of respondents chose Governor Bobby Jindal when asked for their first choice in a presidential candidate. Jindal has yet to officially announce his candidacy for president. Pollster Ann Selzer says, if he is going to run, it would probably benefit Jindal to make a few more trips to Iowa to make more of an impression on voters there…

Anthony Davis makes a triumphant return to the lineup as the Pelicans defeated the Atlanta Hawks 115-100 last night in the Smoothie King Center. Davis scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in his return from a groin strain. In fact, a total of 6 Pelicans scored in double figures as they ended the Hawks 19-game winning streak. The Pels have won six of their last seven. Next up for the Pels – a home date Wednesday night with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In college basketball, McNeese State has won two in a row after beating Southeastern Louisiana 73-60. The Cowboys were lead by Desharick Guidry’s 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Lions will look to bounce back this Saturday at Abilene Christian while McNeese will look to make it three in a row when they face Nicholls State.

Speaking of the Colonels, they’ll be coming off of a 67-55 win over UNO.
