Funeral services for both victims were today. 21 year-old Mayci Breaux’s service was in Franklin this morning; while 33 year-old Jillian Johnson had her memorial service in Lafayette at 12:30pm. Members of the infamous Westboro Baptist Church said they could stage a protest, but Governor Bobby Jindal said yesterday he would order arrests of any protestors.

A Baton Rouge woman is in big trouble after yelling that she was going to shoot someone at a Cinemark movie theater over the weekend. East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Casey Rayborn Hicks says they are not sure why 27-year-old Gaynell Haydel did this, but deputies didn’t want to take any chances after what happened in Lafayette…:

A Colorado jury deciding the fate of Colorado theater shooter James Holmes is being questioned about the media coverage of last week’s Lafayette theater shooting. The concern is whether or not Thursday night’s shooting will influence their deliberations in Holmes’ sentencing.

The Lafayette movie theater shooting has re-energized the debate of installing metal detectors inside movie theaters. Shreveport Representative Barbara Norton says she is already working on legislation to do just that. Norton says she views going to the movies as a family outing…

If re-elected this fall, Norton plans to introduce the measure during next year’s legislative session. She says hand-held metal detector wands start at $50, while walk-through models can cost theater owners one to two thousand dollars. Norton says no amount of money is worth more than people’s safety…

She feels that legislators have a responsibility to do whatever they can to make sure Louisiana residents are safe. There are some that say metal detectors could scare off potential customers and increase wait times for movie goers to get to their film. Norton says standing in line for a few minutes is a small price to pay to save lives…

A Colorado judge has determined that jurors deciding the fate of Colorado theater shooter James Holmes could still be impartial despite seeing media coverage of last week’s Lafayette theater shooting. Legal analyst Tim Meche says Holmes’ lawyers were concerned that the incident in Lafayette may have swayed the jury’s decision…

When asked by the judge if they had seen or read anything about the Lafayette shooting, the twelve jurors raised their hands. Jurors were then questioned individually about what they knew and if they discussed it with anyone. Meche says there is one scenario that could derail Holmes’ sentencing process…

Testimony in the sentencing phase of the trial has resumed. Holmes is facing the death penalty for killing 12 people and injuring 70 others at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado in 2012. Meche says this procedure is just another part of the sentencing process…

A Baton Rouge woman faces charges after she allegedly threatened to shoot someone inside a movie theater over the weekend. East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s office spokesperson Casey Rayborn Hicks says 27-year-old Gaynell Haydel verbalized her threats near the ticket booth at the Cinemark Perkins Rowe theater

Hicks says they are not sure why Haydel threatened to shoot someone inside a movie theater, but after what happened in Lafayette last week, deputies didn’t take any chances and arrested her

Haydel was charged with terrorizing, disturbing the peace and resisting an officer. Her bond has been set at six-thousand dollars. Hicks says they had additional deputies at movie theaters this past weekend and one was quick to respond to the situation

The Shreveport Police Department says they are working an officer involved shooting which left the suspect dead. Chief Administrative Assistant Bill Goodin says they got a 911 call from a woman who reported she and another victim had been held hostage for several hours by the suspect who was armed with a gun but eventually left…:

Goodin says the two female victims who had been allegedly taken hostage were aged 16 and 19 and were related to the suspect. He says officers responded to the location where they heard the man firing shots at his estranged wife when she was arriving to check on the victims…:

The suspect is identified as 33 year old Khari Westly.  Goodin says the suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. He says four officers were placed on paid administrative leave while detectives process all the evidence in this complex case…:

In light of last week’s shooting at the Lafayette movie theater, some people are asking whether or not metal detectors should be placed beyond ticket offices. Shreveport Representative Barbara Norton says she would craft such legislation if she’s re-elected in the fall. She says standing in line a little longer is a small price to pay…:

The two women who were shot and killed during a movie in Lafayette last week are being laid to rest today. 21-year-old Macyi Breaux was a popular student who was studying to be a radiology technician at LSU Eunice. 33-year-old Jillian Johnson was an outgoing artist who ran retail boutiques in Lafayette and New Orleans. At last report, 4 of the 9 other people who were injured remain hospitalized and are expected to recover.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office says they’ve arrested 15 suspects for their alleged involvement in a somewhat organized heroin ring. Deputies say 12 people remain at large and the group is believed to be responsible for distributing large amounts of heroin in the west part of the northshore parish. The multi-jurisdiction investigation dubbed Operation Fishnet has been going on for 14 months and has just come to an end. Anyone with information on the suspects at large is urged to contact authorities.

Former LSU star Aaron Nola earned his first major league win yesterday as he helped the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Chicago Cubs 11 to 5. Nola threw seven plus strong innings and also drove in a run at the plate.

There’s evidence the Lafayette movie theater gunman John Houser suffered from mental issues. Cops saying identifying these potentially dangerous criminals who suffer from mental problems is a first step.

Cops say a woman was arrested over the weekend for allegedly saying over and over that she was going to shoot somebody at a Baton Rouge Cinemark movie theater. An East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office report indicates 27-year-old Gaynell Haydel made threats to moviegoers and employees with some even leaving the theater. The suspect was booked on counts of terrorizing, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.

59-year-old John Houser opened fire during a movie playing in Lafayette and two women died while several others were injured. Wade Duty with the Louisiana Gun Association says law abiding citizens have a right to protect themselves as cops aren’t there when a shooting takes place…:

Duty says the best immediate response to a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

The Shreveport Police Department says a man was shot and killed by cops after officers responded to a call from two women who say they were being held captive. Apparently the man left the residence and when he was located by officers he began shooting at them then cops returned fire. Authorities say the man died at a local hospital and four officers are on paid leave pending the results of an investigation.

The next governor will have to address whether or not TOPS students should continue to have their tuition fully paid for by the state. Scott Carwile has more from the candidateson the issue…:

On CBS’s “Face the Nation”, the governor said it’s important to allow the friends and families of 21-year-old Mayci Breaux and 33-year-old Jillian Johnson to grieve in peace. Jindal said that members of the Westboro Baptist Church “better not try that nonsense here.”
