In Lake Charles tonight, there are three state crowns up for grabs in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Top 28 girls basketball tournament. Tonight, it’s in Classes 3A, B and C. In September 2011 prosecutors say 32-year-old Demetri Robinson shot a cashier and fired a two other employees when he was asked to leave a Port Allen truck stop. The 50-year sentence was handed down on Thursday.

The state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education rejects a proposal to waive penalties against schools who have students that opt out from taking the Common Core exam on a 7-to-4 vote. Superintendent of Education John White says let’s wait and see what happens March 16th to the 20th when students take the standardized test…:

A league source says the New Orleans Saints have restructured the contract of wide receiver Marques Colston, keeping him in Black & Gold for the 2015 season. No details of the restructuring are available, but it’s suspected the deal will reduce Colston’s salary cap obligation for the upcoming season.

The Indianapolis Colts have announced that they will not re-sign veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne. The New Orleans native ranks seventh all-time in the NFL for career receptions and eighth in receiving yards. He will become an unrestricted free agent Tuesday.

Spring football gets underway for LSU on Saturday leading up to April 18th’s Spring Game. Tiger Rag Editor Cody Worsham says spring football will give a chance for some of the Tigers young wide receivers to mature like Malachi Dupre and Trey Quinn….

State Police say an early morning single vehicle crash in St. Tammany Parish has left a Folsom man dead. They say for unknown reasons, 27-year old Lloyd Giddens lost control of his vehicle, exited the roadway, and struck two large trees. Giddens received life threatening injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. Speed and impairment are suspected factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s office says they are pleased to announce that after 34 years “Bossier Doe” has been identified as 17-year-old Carol Ann Cole of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Sgt. Dave Faulk says someone recognized the composite on “Bossier Doe’s” Facebook page as looking familiar to a picture of a woman missing from Michigan on a Craigslist ad..
