This announcement comes on the heels of a recent poll showing Edwards in a statistical tie in the race with Republican US Senator David Vitter. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says this is significant for Edwards…

The Louisiana AFL-CIO is made up of over 100,000 members statewide in both the public and private sector. Edwards is the lone Democrat, so far, in this year’s governor’s race. Pinsonat says endorsements like this for Edwards, will make it more difficult for another Democrat to enter the race, like New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu…

The group’s endorsement comes earlier than in past elections, months before official qualifying begins. Pinsonat says if Edwards can capitalize on this endorsement and grab some others, it will make him a real player in the governor’s race…

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says two men are cited for allegedly changing freshness dates on seafood packages by almost three years. LDWF spokesman Adam Einck says they were conducting a routine inspection of the Gulf Coast Atlantic Fisheries seafood wholesalers in New Orleans when they found two men changing packaging on frozen mahi-mahi filets which originally had a freshness date of September 2013…:

Einck says the bags that had the mahi-mahi filets had a best by date of September of 2013 and they were being repackaged into bags with May of 2016 best by dates. He says all of the fish was then taken by agents…:

Einck says Louisiana law prohibits acts that are falsely represented using any mark, stamp, tag, label or other authorized information. He says further punishment could be coming to 26-year-old Seth Delaune and 49-year-old Thomas Smith, but right now they are cited with misbranding seafood…:

Effective this week, the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles will begin issuing a new format for all classes of Louisiana driver’s licences. State Police Sgt. Nick Manale says this includes identification cards and handicap placards..:

The Saints have made a trade that will be talked for years to come as they’ve sent tight end Jimmy Graham plus a fourth round pick to Seattle for Seahawks center Max Unger and a first round pick in this year’s draft. NFL Analyst Mike Detillier says Unger improves a Saints O-Line that has some holes in it

Graham caught 85 passes for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Detillier says it will be hard for New Orleans to replace that kind of production

A New Roads double homicide suspect is now accused for the shooting death of a Deputy U.S. Marshal in Scotlandville this morning. The suspect is 31 year-old James D. Croom. He was sent to the hospital with a gunshot wound after the gunfight, while thirty year-old Deputy Marshal Josie Wells was also transported, but he later died.

On one hand, there’s a new General Social Survey out that shows a record-tieing low for gun ownership and for guns in the home. On the other, are FBI stats that show an increase in the number of background checks, which indicates an increase in sales. Wade Duty, co-owner of Precision Firearms in Baton Rouge, says his sales are up, particularly sales to women…

It’s being reported that the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks have finalized a trade sending tight end Jimmy Graham to Seattle, and the Seahawks giving the Saints center Max Unger and a first-round pick.

It may go down as one of the biggest trades in franchise history. The Saints have reportedly sent Pro-Bowl tight end Jimmy Graham and a fourth round pick to Seattle for Seahawks center Max Unger and a first round pick in this year’s NFL draft. Reports of the trade started coming out around three o’ clock just as the NFL free agency period began.

NFL analyst Mike Detillier says the Saints have three areas on their football roster that need to improve and offensive line is one of those….

Unger is considered one of the best centers in the NFL, even though he’s coming off a season where he missed ten games because of injuries.

In other Saints news…running back Reggie Bush is consdering a possible return to the Saints and cornerback Keenan Lewis wants the remaining three years of his contract guaranteed or else he wants to be cut.

The Pelicans are at Brooklyn tonight. A win for New Orleans and they move into a tie with Oklahoma City for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Tyreke Evans will not play tonight for the Pels, after injuring his ankle in last night’s win over the Bucks.

LSU’s Jarell Martin and Jordan Mickey have been named first team All-SEC players. Mickey is also on the All-SEC defensive team.

ULM’s Keith Richard has been named Sun Belt Coach of the Year. The Warhawks finished third in the league this year.

The Ragin Cajuns head into the Sun Belt Tournament on a six-game winning streak. They’ll play on Friday against either U-T Arlington or Texas State. The Cajuns won the tourney last year and Coach Bob Marlin believes his team can do it again, based on how they are playing….

Baton Rouge television stations are reporting a US Marshal is dead and murder suspect wounded in a hospital after a shooting during an investigation this morning. Sources say the injured man is Jamie Croom who was wanted by cops on first-degree murder charges in the deaths of a brother and sister killed outside of a nightclub in New Roads last month. This is a developing story.

A lot of rain will be falling over south Louisiana over the next couple of days and the National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch through 6pm Thursday. NWS-Slidell Meteorologist Mike Sheilds says a very slow moving upper level trough is pumping moisture from the Gulf into the area. He says significant rainfall totals are expected over the next 48 hours…:

He says residents in these areas can expect repeat showers and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall at times.

Agents have said that nine people have been arrested in Louisiana recently who were suspected of being here illegally. Immigration authorities say the effort is part of a nationwide sweet called “Cross Check” which targets criminals who were illegally in the country during March 1 to March 5th. Agents arrested a total of 2,059 people with prior criminal convictions from 94 countries.

NFL teams can begin signing free agents this afternoon and football analyst Mike Detillier says the Saints biggest needs are at cornerback and and offensive line. Detillier says the team also needs to revamp their linebacking corps as well. He says the Saints don’t have a lot of money to spend, because of the salary cap, but that won’t stop them from getting the players they need…

The Saints have freed up some money releasing veteran linebacker Curtis Lofton and re-working Junior Galette’s deal.

Anthony Davis played like an MVP last night as he scored 43 points and hit several big shots down the stretch to lead the Pelicans to a 114 to 103 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. Davis also had 10 rebounds for his 34th double-double of the season. New Orleans is at Brookyln tonight.

Jordan Mickey and Jarrell Martin have been named first team All SEC as selected by the league’s coaches. Martin is averaging close to 17 points per a game, while Mickey is averaging 16 points a contest. Mickey has also been named to the all-sec defensive team.

And Louisiana Tech’s Kenneth Smith and Michale Kyser have been named to the Conference USA All-Defensive team.
